Sen. Susan Collins will remain a thorn in President Trumps side in Washington after announcing Friday that she will stay out of the Maine governors race.
I am a congenital optimist. I continue to believe that Congress can, and will, be more productive, Collins said at a Chamber of Commerce event in Maine.
I want to continue to play a key role in advancing policies that strengthen our nation, help our hardworking families, improve our health care system, and bring peace and stability to a troubled and violent world.
Collins, 64, has been weighing for months whether shed make a bigger impact in the Senate or by launching a bid to become the first woman to serve as Maines governor.
One of a handful of GOP centrists, she has been a champion for those who want to hold Trump in check and decided shes needed more in the US Senate.
She was one of three GOP senators who sunk the Senate health care bill pushed by Team Trump.
Collins also serves a key role on the Intelligence Committee probing Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
On Friday, she voiced opposition to Trumps decision to withdraw a key subsidy to insurers meant to help people afford health insurance under ObamaCare, The Hill reported.
She said the payments were important in helping the poor get health insurance.
The White House says the payments are a bailout of the insurance companies and an abuse of executive power launched by the Obama administration.
Collins also expressed concern about a separate executive order from Trump that the administration says will lower premiums by allowing insurers to offer cheaper plans.
Critics, including some insurers, maintain that the changes could increase costs on plans for sicker Americans.

Her time would be “better served” in prison. What a worthless lefty wretch.
Votes with the Democrats
What crime has Susie committed?
Ping
Have mueller’s team of LIB-loser attorneys start looking...he’ll find one.
Translation: She would have lost.
Without a shouvel.
What, exactly, does she do in the Senate?
You know, kinda like John McCain and Linda.
I was going to suggest the nuthouse, but I guess the Senate is as close as you can get without bars on the windows.
Probably a stupid question, but any chance of “primarying” her from the right? (I know, probably pointless to ask being from liberal New England and all)
poll numbers for governor were terrible ?
Translation...Susan Collins thinks staying in the senate is more lucrative than being governor of her small state. Being governor is a dead end for her and doesn’t give her the national exposure being in the senate does.
“I’m more comfortable in the swamp. The perks are much better than running a backwater state.”
Damn.
Have thought about that. Lawmakers in the 70+ range of life, considerably wealthy, and they believe spending time in congress is the best way to spend their final years?
What makes them want to stay? Power? A sense of royalty or importance?
Better if her time was spent in jail. She is a destroyer of America.
Work isn’t a requirement in the Senate.
She is a sponsor of the Graham-Cassidy bill:
“S.191 115th Congress
Sponsor: Sen. Cassidy, Bill [R-LA]
....
Date Cosponsored
Sen. Collins, Susan M. [R-ME]* 01/23/2017
Sen. Capito, Shelley Moore [R-WV]* 01/23/2017
Sen. Isakson, Johnny [R-GA]* 01/23/2017
Sen. Graham, Lindsey [R-SC] 01/30/2017
Sen. Rounds, Mike [R-SD] 02/27/2017”
“She said the payments were important in helping the poor get health insurance.”
Constitution, Article I, Section 9:
“No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law”
And Trump has effective veto power.
It’s time for Susan and Schumer to play ball with Trump.
LePage needs to Cantorize Collins.
The primary is the means to draining the swamp.
Arizona is finally waking up and is going to dump Flake.
Wicker is in trouble in MS.
