I did a short tour in the States in 1967 before I volunteered to go back to Nam. We had a PP, Perpetual Private, who worked in the commissary.

I was surprised when the Post Commander saluted him when ever he passed him. It turned out that he won the MOH in Korea doing amazing feats of bravery during the Pusan(?) parameter fights.

The part that I’ve always found fascinating was the fact that very few real heros thought of themselves as “heros.”
