You’re right. He’s an ass. Trump funded Hillary. He funded Obama. He attacked Reagan and called him a conman. He called Republicans stupid for many years. But he was never part of the Uniparty. Until recently, he was a Liberal Democrat. How dare a man like McCain who fought the liberals in most of his life has the gall to point out that Trump benefited from his families vast wealth is beyond outrageous. Trump’s friend, the great conservative philosopher Howard Stern (a family values kinda guy) must be so proud to see that our POTUS can stomp a wimp like McCain.
The rich getting deferments happens to be all too true, whatever McCain might have meant in the present instance. The wealthy buying themselves out of the draft would be worse today, much as I have come to believe it should be reinstated. We now are a nation where no one (or few) have any ‘skin in the game.’ Few Americans even know anyone who’s serving or who has served in recent memory.
During the VN conflict I worked for an attorney who’d been Counsel to the (then immediate past-) VPOTUS. After he was out of office and back in private practice, he was besieged by requests from wealthy supporters of his former boss to get their sons out of the draft. I won’t say he didn’t try to accommodate a few of them.
