WASHINGTON The entertainment world has seen its fair share of groups take ownership of racially charged and sexually disparaging terms: Queen and N.W.A. (Niggaz Wit Attitudes) are a couple notable examples.
But it was The Slants an Asian-American dance-rock quartet that sought to reappropriate a term used against them by grade-school bullies who found themselves defending First Amendment rights before the Supreme Court earlier this year.

Unlike you, I'm not losing any sleep over a tasteless thing a guy did in his own dugout. Yuli Gurriel is a Cuban/Russian guy. He hasn't had his American sensitivity training yet.

Actually, the First Amendment was included to ensure that citizens could criticize government without repercussions. All other forms of speech had always been considered fair game, except where those who get offend pound the speaker to a pulp.
Overzealous prosecutors perverted First Amendment issues way from its intended beginnings.
