The recent problems came up because Goodell -- really the NFL owners as a whole -- were facing a situation where they weren't able to push their way around against TV networks, the player's union, or a city or county government. This is the first time the NFL ever had to deal with an adversarial situation where they were facing strong pushback, and they were completely ill-equipped to deal with it.
If Jerry Jones had come out this way against Goodell weeks ago he would have had a lot of credibility, but the reality is that Jones was a very integral player in helping to perpetuate this disaster:
Yep. Sorry Jerry, you lost all relevance when you kneeled with the rest of the goofballs.
Jerry Jones will never live that moment down! It was truly his Mike Dukakis in a tank moment.
