Sex offenders, especially pedophiles, have a psychological disorder(or disease) and many people would argue it is not curable.
This is not the same as repeat offenders who steal, commit fraud, commit assault and battery etc. These are behaviors that are controllable.
There is a strong argument for incarcerating these individuals, or a sub-class of these individuals, for much longer timeframes, maybe even for life, because of the inherent danger to others they present.
