Big meat and big dairy's climate emissions put Exxon Mobil to shame
The Guardian ^ | November 7, 2017 | by Juliette Majot and Devlin Kuyek

It is time to stop the dairy and meat giants from destroying the climate and shift our support to making our small farmers, herders and ranchers resilient.

Did you know that three meat companies – JBS, Cargill and Tyson – are estimated to have emitted more greenhouse gases last year than all of France and nearly as much as some of the biggest oil companies like Exxon, BP and Shell?

Few meat and dairy companies calculate or publish their climate emissions. So for the first time ever, we have estimated corporate emissions from livestock, using the most comprehensive methodology created to date by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

And before the meat and dairy industries descend upon COP23 to broadcast their “feed the world” narrative, let’s set the story straight: their emissions could lead us to a point of no return.

We’ve found that the top 20 meat and dairy companies emitted more greenhouse gases in 2016 than all of Germany, Europe’s biggest climate polluter by far.

If we are serious about feeding the planet while fighting climate change, the world needs to urgently invest in a transition to food systems that hinge on small-scale producers, agroecology and local markets.

The first step is to redirect public money from factory farming and agribusiness towards small-scale agroecological family farms. Governments should also use their buying power to support small producers, helping them to build jobs and markets for local products.

As numerous cities make energy choices to tackle climate change, so too should municipalities invest in farm-to-hospital and farm-to-school programs that deliver healthier food and strengthen rural communities while emitting fewer greenhouse gases.

Who gets to decide who gets to emit CO2 and who doesn’t is your king. And he is a king with more power of life and death than Genghis Khan or Adolf.

For crying out loud, are we at this again.

For those research idiots, here is something to wrap your minds with.

There are 7 plus billion humans on the Earth. Each mature human releases about 3 liters of methane a day.

Do the math. There are more humans on earth than cows.

Written by idiots. Why would small scale production lead to less emission? Are they implying less production? I suspect that they are closet vegans.

First they came for my energy now they want my food.

let’s set the story straight: their emissions COULD lead us to a point of no return.

How do you set the story strait with a COULD? The answer is that 'could not' is just as reasonable a conclusion.

Absolutely no animal or fossil fuel can outdo the gaseous nauseating emissions and climate destruction like the Uniparty.

... all of Germany, Europe’s biggest climate polluter by far.

Is it a coincidence that they point the finger at the most industrious country in Europe and one of the most profitable and essential industries, i.e. food suppliers.
Successful industry is their target, not emissions.

The beauty of the whole man-made global warming “theory” for the left is anything that they don’t like can be somehow blamed. They keep thinking that if they indoctrinate our youth and scream loud enough people will eventually start to listen to them. Is it working? I don’t know. Even with rampant manipulation of data if it were not for the El Niño last year, we would still be in a 20 year pause from temperature rise.

Cows eat grass.

Cows emit methane and carbon dioxide.

The methane is oxidized to carbon dioxide and water.

Grass absorbs carbon dioxide and water as it grows.

Cows eat grass.

Global Warmists are idiots.

[[Did you know that three meat companies – JBS, Cargill and Tyson – are estimated to have emitted more greenhouse gases last year than all of France and nearly as much as some of the biggest oil companies like Exxon, BP and Shell? ]]

Did you know that man’s CO2 amounts to just 0.00136% of the atmosphere? Think about that for a moment- the rest of the4 CO2 in the atmosphere is natural- and the amount of ALL CO2 is just 0.04%. We can’t possibly be causing global climate change- period- it’s not possible- there isn’t enough CO2 in the atmosphere to cause global climate change- We could multiply our production of CO2 100 times what we’re producing today and still not have an effect- none=-

At best- we are causing LOCALIZED temporary temperature changes in isolated small plots of land due to pollution and/or development- but NOT due to CO2. And we certainly are NOT causing global temperature changes!
