Justice for Asia’s Climate Refugees
The Diplomat ^ | November 9, 2017 | By Theiva Lingam

We all have a climate story to tell.

As I head for the latest round of UN climate talks (COP23) in Bonn, Germany, relatives in Malaysia tell me that our home state, Penang, has been almost completely submerged by floods, killing seven people and displacing thousands.

As with most disasters and shocks, the poorest are the worst hit. Climate-related migration is already hurting some of the most vulnerable communities.

Clearly, the impacts these people are suffering are not their own fault, but the symptom of a crisis for which developed nations and multinational corporations are primarily responsible by relentlessly extracting and consuming fossil fuels: coal, oil and natural gas.

Rich countries must drastically reduce emissions and provide finance to developing countries to enable them to adapt and address “loss and damage”.

We must remember that we are already victims of climate disasters. The time for action is now — before we reach a point of no return.

China and India are the biggest polluters in the world.

And they are right around the corner.

I am sure they will be receptive.

“We all have a climate story to tell.”

Well, then, you are all despicable liars.

There are so many who war with us while we treat the as misguided family members.

They are not members of our family. They are not even members of the family of man.

WX and WX-anomalies is not climate. Every 100 years is a single, tick data point among hundreds or thousands of such data points to demonstrate WX averaging trends, which reflects the climate.

The civilized world has a duty to turn back these barbarian “refugee” invasions.

On a per capita basis the US emits a lot more CO2 than China or India. America consumes a lot of energy. Also, a significant amount of emissions in China are a result of producing goods that are exported to the US, Europe, and the rest of the world.

And the Mideast oil states emit a lot more than the US, on a per capita basis.

There's no question many people are affected by climate change. But this has been the case since humans appeared on the planet some 3 million years ago. The AGW propaganda community has the problem exactly backwards: We should be making plans to *adapt* to change, not engage in Sisyphus-like attempts to stop it. That particular rock will always roll downhill at the end of the day.

Even the most brain-dead AGW apologists should be able to understand that climate has been changing and oceans have been rising since the beginning of the current Interglacial period. And if they can read they should know that rising atmospheric C02 is not the cause but the *effect* of atmospheric warming.

Alas, the scaremongering has nothing to do with science, climate change or reality. It's purely political in both its profit motive aspect (carbon credits/job security) and its frank bid for near-totalitarian global power.

So she states her home state in Malaysia, Penang, has been almost completely inundated by floods yet according to Wikipedia, Penang is considered the Silicon Valley of the East (with a healthy GDP and almost nonexistent unemployment) and a vast majority of their housing units are high rise buildings. The population density is the highest in Malaysia and between the high rise buildings and the hotels for the considerable tourist trade, Penang is pretty vertical and concrete which would make total inundation a fantasy. Plus I would think this density might affect drainage from nearly 100 inches of rain annually. Her climate story sounds kind of suspect.

Socialist wealth redistribution scheme. Blame "rich" countries for bad weather in poor countries and pick their pockets. They are poor countries in great part because they have crappy weather. It is not the fault of people who live in countries with good weather and functioning economies.
