If Menendez is convicted before Christie leaves, Christie can appoint someone, correct? He won't quit and McConnell won't do a damn thing to kick him out.

Under Senate rules, he can stay in office until he has to go to prison... If by chance he gets convincted it will be months before he has to go to prison.
