Listening to Trump's America (Santa Clara County, CA)
NextDoor / Santa Clara County Supervisors ^ | 11/12/17 | Joe Simitian

Our County Supervisor has been giving this talk the past few months around Santa Clara County. He put this invitation on NextDoor.

Supervisor Joe Simitian, Santa Clara County District 5
November 14th at the Los Altos Library

Dear Friend,

Here in the Bay Area we live in a bubble, in a bubble, in a bubble. While 46% of the American electorate voted for President Donald Trump last fall, at home the numbers were dramatically different. In California 32% voted for President Trump, in Santa Clara County it was 21%, and in my hometown of Palo Alto, just 12% voted for President Trump.

Which prompted me to ask, what’s going on in the rest of the country? To get some answers, I traveled to three counties, in three states and had more than 100 conversations in places that had historically voted for Democratic candidates for President (including President Obama), but that “flipped” in 2016, and voted for President Trump. My goal was to listen, learn and understand. And I learned a lot.

I’d like to invite you to a conversation about what I learned:

Tuesday, November 14, 2017, 7:00 PM
Los Altos Library Orchard Room
13 S. San Antonio Road
Los Altos, CA

The event is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come basis.

Hope you can join us!

Douglas Moran, a reporter at Palo Alto Online, has reported on Simitian's earlier presentation and has written a surprisingly insightful and honest article about what has gone wrong with Democrats. It is a long article, but well worth reading:

Joe Simitian talk: Listening to Trump's America: Bridging the Divide. He actually sounds like he is on FR!

The more pertinent question, is what is going on in California?

Who are all those people voting for Democrats?

How much does vote fraud enter the picture?

15 years ago, I lived in Palo Alto.

During the 2004 election, I had a Bush/Cheney poster on my door. Not easily seen from the street. When liberals came to my door hawking their liberal causes, they saw the sign. It was like they were vampires and the poster was a silver crucifix and wooden stake and garlic. They blanched and went away. t was fun to watch from outside.

I do that with the door-to-door salesmen peddling solar panels. I start off all interested, then slowly build a case why solar is complete lunacy and the only reason is “saves” people money is we are taxed to death by government to make “green” payments to special interests. I tell them that the only place solar makes economic sense is if you are more than one mile down a country lane and don’t have utility power to your house. None of them have ever heard that before. Most of them start backing away carefully from the crazy guy.

So true. They don’t want to be confused by the facts.
