"I was beaten with a 12” stick, because I didn’t memorize something that was in the book I was given."

I'm a female, and when I was nine, my fourth grade teacher was a black female, a very pretty woman named Miss Johnson. That was back in 1956 in Rochester, NY. A group of us kids were having problems with math, so she singled us out and told the rest of the class we were members of the "Dumb Bunny Club." At the time it was embarrassing, but it forced me to get my $hit together and learn what was required of me. I'm 70 and still hate math.

"You can tell a girl from Rochester, but you can't tell her a thing!"

(Our saying from my old days in the '50s. Graduated from Honeoye Falls Central, 1954.)
