Sad but true. My wife had liver cancer, and by the time they found it it had already spread to her lungs. The doctors at Mayo told us the brain was the next stop.

She did chemo, then a clinical trial, and you could hardly tell she was even sick. A year later, Christmas 2015, she was helping me with our enormous tree, we were taking long walks. She was fit as a fiddle, on the outside at least.

In January her motor skills went. Couldn’t drive, had trouble even walking.

By February she was in a wheelchair, and couldn’t read her beloved books or even watch tv for more than 30 minutes or so at a time, and she constantly asked me what had just happened in the show.

She died in March.

It was a very quick downhill after the cancer got to her brain.

It is pathetic that McCain (or his handlers) can’t let him retire and live out his last days in peace at home.

I mean, the last few months, my wife couldn’t even grab the ketchup w/o grabbing another bottle from the refrigerator thinking she had the ketchup. I had to correct her many times before I just started doing everything for her.

Yet McCain is making decisions on things that affect the lives of hundreds of millions of Americans.

Agreed.

I don’t wish him to suffer.

I don’t wish him to die prematurely or painfully.

I just want him to leave, but his actions make it hard to feel compassion.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I am sorry about your wives. I cannot imagine that pain.

It is harder when you see them deteriorate.

I wish you peace this Thanksgiving.

Yet McCain is making decisions on things that affect the lives of hundreds of millions of Americans.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It appears that he has reduced his decision making to one simple ‘rule’ - if Trump wants it, McCain is against it, so the lives of Americans don’t even factor into the equation. Since Trump is demonstrably “America first”, McCain is worse than despicable for letting his personal animosity towards Trump override what is best for the American people.

Someone who purported to be a cancer doc on another site noted the weight loss. He also opined that the boot might be to hide ‘foot drop’ which can happen with brain/neurological damage. Personally, I suspect McCain has been “hanging on” for his daughter’s wedding & now Christmas which is around the corner. I would expect him to go sharply downhill after that.

My sympathies on the loss of your wife.

First. Let me express my deepest condolences for the loss of your wife. I have already said a prayer for you, her, and your whole family.

Second. This McCain issue is not the first time this has happened in the Senate. Back in the late 80s through 1992 Senator Quentin Burdick (R-ND) was senile and could barely function. The Senate let his staff vote for him and there was no uproar anywhere.

Maybe I am lazy or have skewed priorities but as I get older I want to be around my family and friends. Why these people feel the need to be messing around, badly I might add, with our Country until the die is beyond me.

So sorry for your loss with your wife. I have been there with my Mom but a wife is a whole different story. I very much dislike McCain but I hope that he can be allowed to be normal during his remaining months. Some of that is on him. He should retire.

Sounds like my wife, as well. She was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis two years ago. She'll put down her drink, start doing something else, then look around and ask me, "Did you see where I put down my drink?". And it's right in front of her. We'll start a conversation, and sometimes she just drifts off and stops hearing me. Or she'll start to tell me something, and the words stop coming out, like she's searching for the right ones to use. Her brain knows what it wants to say, but momentarily loses the capacity to say it. It's not constant or even frequent, but when it does, I just bite my lip and tell myself it'll stop in a few minutes. Or hours. And she's not aware of it most of the time. Her last MRI showed not only the areas on her brain where the nerves have been attacked, but it's spread into her spinal cord at the base of her skull. That really worries me.

Sorry to hear about your dear wife.

On McBackstabber, there is no one at home for him to rest with, I suspect. I don’t think he has a real marriage. I think the marriage is a Bill and Hillary model.
