At least he’s leaving at 63 which is around most peoples retirement age......not waiting to die in office.

His entire political career is loathsome.

He marched with the FALN and carried the red flag of the former Soviet Union.

He was promoted to a position of political prominence by Chicago Mayor Harold Washington who appointed him to a well paid sinecure (allowing Luis to stop supporting himself as a taxi cab driver) in order to prepare him for an aldermanic election. He was elected after a run-off election in which he condemned his opponent for not being fluent in Spanish.

After Washington’s death, Guitierrez betrayed the Progressives by switching sides and allying himself with Richard M. Daley. Once Daley was mayor (the most corrupt mayor in city history — Chicago is up to its eyes in death spiral debts due to his unpaid bills and money grabs), the deal was cut to launch Guitierrez’s Congressional career by putting him into a heavily gerrymandered district manufactured to elected a Hispanic.

The man is pure scum.

Isn't this the bozo that famously said ..."If Trump dares to revoke Obama’s DACA executive order, Gutierrez said he will consider it a “declaration of war.” He pledged to not allow immigration reform to go forward “on the backs of” Dreamers.

Good Riddance sucka

"Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez will announce he is retiring and won't seek re-election next year."

Cutting and running before the bombshell drops, eh? Democrats never leave office unless they're forced to.

A favorite “Council Wars” memory from the Chicago City Council
was when Alderman Bernard Stone (50th) denounced then Alderman
Luis Guitierrez as “a pipsqueak” who had yet to get his feet “wet” at City Hall.

An anecdote from Luis’ student days as a poor Puerto Rican enrolled at Northeastern Illinois University (known in the ‘hood as “Northeasy” for its lax academics which has made it a favorite alma mater from Chicago politicians in need of a degree): Luis was too poor to afford a winter coat, so a faculty member gave him a coat to wear. Luis expressed his gratitude by wearing the coat while participating in a student protest demanding the ouster of the same faculty member who clothed him.

This anecdote is illustrative and it also explains his constant calls for Puerto Rican independence and coddling FALN terrorists while demanding the USA pick up all of Puerto Rico’s debts without questioning waste, fraud, and corruption on the island. Likewise, Luis played at being a “political progressive” while cutting deals with the machine politicians that he condemned time and time again.

I’m telling you, Andrew Breitbart had followed the perversion trail from Hollywood to DC, and had started working on a dossier. That could be the reason why he is no longer with us.

It appears the dossier is now complete, and in Steve Bannon’s possession. Hang on, it’s gonna be a wild ride.

Also Joe Scarborough. "Joe Scarborough‏Verified account @JoeNBC I took down my Trump tweets yesterday after deciding my responses should be about policy and not personality. That's it".

The shady deal has been cut: Guitierrez retires; Jesus “Chuy” Garcia enters the race for the vacant Congressional seat; Rahm Emanuel, the hugely unpopular Chicago mayor, weighs seeking a third term with his Latino challenger in D.C. rather than in the Windy City. Garcia forced Emanuel into a costly run-off election in 2015.

Interestingly, Guitierrez announced his retirement less than one week before the close of petition filing for the 2018 primary.

Interestingly, Guitierrez collected and filed nominating petition sheets containing voter signatures needed to qualify for the primary ballot in March of 2018.

Was this intended to deceive potential candidates not to enter the primary against a supposed incumbent so as to grease the skids for a preferred successor candidate favored by the Machine?

Or was Guitierrez planning to run in 2018 only to be alerted to a scandal that led to his sudden retirement?

I’ll bet that Gutierrez was totally intending on running, but ‘something unexpected came up.’

He’s ducking a scandal of some sort.
