Vice President Mike Pence was roundly ridiculed when it was revealed that he makes an effort never to be alone with a woman who is not his wife, but the policy is looking less prudish and more sensible as accusations of sexual misconduct against powerful men proliferate.
Accusations first surfaced last month against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and have since reverberated through Hollywood, the media and government at every level. On Wednesday, Matt Lauer, a longtime host of NBCs Today, and Minnesota Public Radios Garrison Keillor were fired by their respective organizations amid accusations of improper behavior.
Joseph Backholm, president of the Family Policy Institute of Washington, said the spate of sexual misconduct accusations makes it increasingly obvious that we need to re-evaluate our boundaries.
It goes without saying that you dont have to establish the rules that Mike Pence has established in order to behave appropriately at all times, Mr. Backholm said. But the world would be a much better place and much less complicated if everybody conducted themselves like Mike Pence does.
The Pence rule is a variation of the personal conduct policy popularized by the Rev. Billy Graham, who refused to travel, meet or dine alone with a woman. In addition, the vice president does not attend parties where alcohol is served without his wife by his side.

Vice President Pence gets it, no accusations can be made when he is not alone with a female other than his wife.
Vice President Pence is a prudent man. It is admirable that he does not say, “I told you so,” to all the mockers who made fun of his good judgment.
My doctors and dentists have had the same rule over the years.
The Veep is not concerned that he may misbehave. His concrns are elsewhere.
VP Pence was ridiculed by the press and the DNC mercilessly.
I would like to see Rush do a montage of the media mocking Pence back when his policy with women was being discussed and see if any of today’s culprits were part of that crew mocking Pence.
“I’ve a close relative that’s a Christian and supervises a lot of people, many of them women. When interviewing, hiring or calling females into his office for any reason that he supervises he has another person present. He’s never had a problem with accusations of any kind.

I wouldnt want to be a gynecologist in todays climate. I’d have the whole clerical staff in the exam room by the stirrups.
Whenever Reverend Graham did have a need to meet with a woman, for example, to do an interview, he always met with her in a public place such as a restaurant where there were a lot of people around.
I bet the big losers this week wish that they had some rules of behavior with women and that they had followed them.
So glad today to be another Christian clinging to those 10 commandments and the words of Christ and my... Oops, I lost those when my boat capsized 50 years ago.
Lets wrap this baby up, folks!
Lauer has been exposed tsk tsking O’Reilly and Keiler tsk tsking Trump.
Sad it has to be that way, but it sure seems smart now. Whenever I need to check something body wise on a student I always make sure another adult is present or send them to the nurse.
Pence is allowed a nice big laugh!
Many Christians follow this practice.
Mike has the right idea. I’ve had this policy for years. When I was a manager I made sure I was never alone with a female other than wife. And there have been some who “flirted” with me. I acted like I didn’t understand and made quick suggestions that we bring in another coworker on a project we were working no, and acted like the flirting never happened. I’m sure other guys I worked with encountered the same thing. Trying to keep oneself above reproach is sometimes challenging
The rule is not to keep him behaving appropriately. It is keep people from hinting that he behaved in an inappropriately manner.
A false accusation can ruin your life more thoroughly then any real one can.
I have watched honest men and women spend years trying to defend themselves from accusations that were false. It has cost them money, time, careers, ministries and marriages. Even if you manage to prove you are as pure as the driven snow the whispers will follow you for the rest of your life.
Accusations CAN be made. 'Just because he has a rule doesn't mean he always adheres to it', they will say.
False accusations can be made no matter what precautions one makes to avoid the appearance of impropriety. Then it still becomes "he said, she said". And defenders must do fact finding in order to impeach the veracity of the accuser. (e.g. she makes a practice of bringing false charges, or the recalled events don't line up historically with the scene, the people or the events.
Yep, the Vice-President is brilliant.
I remember back in the Anthrax Era seeing Tommy Thompson getting lit up with a beautiful blonde and lots of red wine at Smith & Wolensky’s.
Out in the open, obviously having a good time but not loud or boorish, no grab-ass or hi-jinks, or anything like that.
Yet, seeing a middle aged chubster with a striking women twenty-five or so years younger, dressed in evening wear, not work attire...
well, you remember it for sixteen years.
I saw the comment in the article from Christianity Today. Christianity Today as far as I am concerned has no more credibility.
Pence is a smart man.
