Mahmoud Al-Habbash, a senior adviser to Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas, on Saturday declared that an American recognition of Jerusalem as Israels capital will destroy the peace process.
His comments followed reports that U.S. President Donald Trump could recognize Jerusalem as Israels capital as soon as Wednesday.
Any American declaration of recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel if there is one would mean total destruction of the peace process," said Al-Habbash, who was quoted in Israeli media.
The whole world will pay a price for any change or harm to the political reality of Jerusalem, he warned. The Yediot Aharonot newspaper noted that Al-Habbash made the comments with Abbas standing at his side, meaning that Abbas fully backed the remarks.
The Arab states stand by us, especially Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and the entire Arab-Islamic nation is united in one position, Al-Habbash further claimed.
Hamas also responded to the reports earlier on Saturday, calling for a new "intifada" if Washington recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel or moves its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
"We warn against such a move and call on the Palestinian people to revive the intifada if these unjust decisions on Jerusalem are adopted," Hamas said in a statement.

Why don’t you post in Religion? Nobody’s interested here. This is politics and activism, you see.
Just replying to familyop...but I’ve stated my piece. But you gotta know any posting about Israel is going to invite religious comments. Israel is where it all starts and ends in terms of peace finally coming to the world.
Israel exists in the Mideast Muzzies as a deep seated form of cognitive dissonance. If Israel’s claim to be the nation that God has blessed forever is true then that means that Islam is a false religion and Muzzies just don’t know how to deal with that internal contradiction. Religion lies at the heart of the conflict in the Mideast....there is no getting away from that fact.
By the way did you ask the same of familyop?
Note to Mr.Al-Habbash: Just what peace are you talking about? There is no peace now. Israel has not been left in peace in all it’s modern existence. How can you dare say some action breaks a peace the folks like you have never sought nor permitted? When you really want peace you make what compromises it takes to have it and you quit making war. That’s something leaders like you among Isreal’s neighbors have never done.
I don’t begrudge anyone their religious beliefs. But there are many interpretations of scripture, and if we’re going to argue interpretations, this forum is ill equipped for it. For one, the only language everyone understands is English, and the Bible is written in Hebrew and Aramaic, and has important translations in Latin and Greek, and even if we all understood Hebrew, we don’t have fonts that account for vowels and cantilation. So how do we discuss texts? There is the Christian interpretation, and the Jewish, and that is the context under which religion gets involved in a political discussion. All well and good if you want to discuss who is the rightful owner of the land. But if you want to start discussing who’s the Messiah, that’s entirely removed from any political discussion. Render unto Freep that which is Freep’s. This topic is not of this board.
So you didn’t ask familop why he brought religion into it? That’s fine you’ve made your point, and you’ve made your point of view known...this isn’t a messiah friendly thread when it comes to Israel. I’ll go away now!

Got it. Interesting to see what Trump will decide to say at this point.
I didn’t know who started it, didn’t pay it much attention. I got lots of respect for Christians, and appreciate that they got our backs a lot lately here in Israel. So when the topic turns to scriptoral interpretations and prophesies and the like, I foresee an unwanted flame war that could harm the good will here. I prefer to agree to disagree, and not go too deep into the actual disagreements. Usually that involves just remaining silent and letting those who want to turn the discussion that way say their say and have done. This discussion was dragging, and I didn’t care for it to drag. So I finally said something.
What nations will gather against the Land and Children of Israel? We’ll know for sure soon. They’ll start gathering, and we’ll all see it and be involved in it. I wouldn’t miss it for anything.
He cited Malachi 3:6. As for your other points I do agree with you. There won’t be peace until Messiah rules out of Jerusalem...whomever one believes him to be...and the nations risen against her, thrashed!
