It’s no guarantee but when totalitarian nations allow in western capitalism capital investment it tends to have a liberalizing effect however imperfect

If we don’t do that then we just wait for a total collapse which we hope will be replaced by something better which may not be

Of course Vietnam is unlikely to become Singapore anytime soon but less likely to revert to more totalitarianism

If you look at the track records of how communist and dictatorial nations evolve once any economic self determination is introduced

Standards of living rise and so does freedom however imperfect by our jaded comparison

Imagine neo Stalinist Hanoi of 1965 with today

Or Maoist China with today

Better than before however flawed

Had we not invested it would not have been as possible or others like the French who never hold back would have
