Israel says it destroyed Hamas tunnel using new techniques
Washinton Post ^ | December 10 at 8:55 AM | Josef Federman

The Israeli military on Sunday said it has destroyed a tunnel built by the Hamas militant group that stretched from the Gaza Strip several hundred meters (yards) into Israeli territory, declaring a breakthrough in its war against underground threats from the Palestinian enclave.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, a military spokesman, told reporters that Israel had used a new set of “tools” developed since a 2014 war with Hamas in order to destroy the tunnel. He said forces had detected the tunnel months ago and continued to monitor construction efforts by Hamas militants before demolishing it.

...

Conricus said a new system involving combat units, military intelligence, logistics and research had been used to destroy the tunnel. The system was first used to detect a tunnel that was destroyed on Oct. 30, but other aspects of the system were used this time around, he said.

...

Conricus said the tunnel began in the central Gazan town of Khan Younis and stretched for over a kilometer (half a mile) across the border and into Israel. Although not complete, he said the tunnel was “very substantial,” equipped with electricity, communications equipment and a ventilation system. It was located about a kilometer from an Israeli community. ...

Hamas’ military wing issued a statement earlier Sunday threatening Israel with a “heavy price.”

“Our battle for Jerusalem is going on round the clock, above and under the ground,” the statement said.

Tunnels are also a problem on the southern border of the US so a little collaboration might be in order.

Exactly. I love the futility of the terrorscum spending so much labor on a tunnel while being monitored by the Israelis, who blow it up before it gets put to use.

Footnote: the destruction of that tunnel killed the workers inside - Hamas forced child laborers and their adult supervisors.

That “guilt trip” is on Hamas, not Israel. They brainwash their kids to become terrorists at a very early age. No sympathy here. Kill em all and let their little piss-ant god, allah, sort em all out.

I would suggest the tunnel was caved in on the Gaza side trapping the high level Hamas leaders making the inspection on the Israeli side.

OK!

Tell us what you did, in military detail, so we can take out the tunnel builders invading us.

1 / 2 miles = 0.804672 kilometers. Article doesn't even give a good estimate

Back on topic, only destroy the tunnels when they've been fully fitted and manned. Keep 'em wasting money and manpower.

I think the days of tunneling into Israel are over.

Broder picture here. Hamas tunneling was also rolled up by Al-Sisi. ISIS gone in Iraq, and now it looks like Russia is trying to clean up their remains in Syria. I read after the Cruz Missile strike, it was either Hezbollah or Hamas retreated from the Golan heights. N otice A pattern here? Add to that PDJT’s denoting we will move the embassy. ALL of this is an effort to role up the bad actors and to make the PA stand on their own powerless of their supporting thugs and Iranian money as PDJT truly goes for a peace deal as he and Israel negotiate from a position of strength. No I am not tired of winning!

The Palestinians are building these tunnels to murder Israeli women and children, not to fight a war. They cannot exist peacefully.
