Rubio to vote 'no' on tax bill unless child tax credit is expanded
The Hill ^ | Dec 14, 2017 | Y ALEXANDER BOLTON AND AVERY ANAPOL

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has threatened to vote against the tax bill, putting the legislation in danger of being delayed past Christmas.

Rubio has told Senate leaders that he will vote against the bill unless the child tax credit is made more generous to help lower-income workers who pay payroll taxes and not regular income taxes.

“Sen. Rubio has consistently communicated to the Senate tax negotiators that his vote on final passage would depend on whether the refundability of the Child Tax Credit was increased in a meaningful way,” said a spokesperson for Rubio.

If Rubio votes against the bill, Republicans can only lose one other lawmaker if they hope to pass the final bill that emerges from a House-Senate conference. Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) previously voted against the Senate tax bill because it would add $1.5 billion to the deficit, and no Democrats support it.

Corker has not ruled out voting for the final conference report, though he suggested his concerns have not changed.

They need to stop making income taxes a welfare program.

Repeal refundable credits.

Exactly! That is what Stephen Moore, former Trump budget advisor, said over a week ago.

That's not true, and the bill makes the requirements a little tougher. Here is how the leftists are complaining about it:

---
"Both versions of the GOP tax bill restrict eligibility requirements for low-income tax credits that benefit millions of immigrant workers and their children each year. Currently, workers with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number are eligible for the Child Tax Credit (CTC), and a Social Security number (SSN) is required to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Under both versions of the plan, filers would be required to provide a work-authorized SSN to claim the refundable portion of the CTC. The House bill also requires a work-authorized SSN to claim the refundable portion of the EITC. According to UnidosUs, these proposals would limit CTC and EITC benefits for millions of undocumented workers and their nearly four million U.S.-citizen children."

If he were threatening to vote no unless something were done to curb the forthcoming explosion in the national debt, I could understand. But this is nuts. Not to be outdone by the party of tax and spend the GOP is about to cement its status as the party of borrow and spend. The GOP has become a party of prostitutes for Wall Street. Screw them. Time to start looking for a respectable third party I can vote for without having to go to confession afterwards.

“How is it possible for a conservative to support this?”

Rubio is no conservative. A tax refund to people who don’t pay taxes is just redistribution, communism. The fact that it will go to the illegals that Rubio loves is traitorous. Since when have Republicans stood for redistribution?

I recently met a “hard-working” family at church. At least that is how they portrayed themselves. But in looking a little closer, you had to wonder why a 50-year-old man was working for minimum-wage at Walmart. Looking even closer, he wasn’t even working full-time. Possibly his choice so he could get free Obama care. The two kids were of course on every free handout available. On top of that church members were giving them clothes and food.. The wife worked part time at various jobs, substituting and tax preparation

There certainly are some people who are temporarily on hard times. That could happen to any of us. On the other hand there is a growing class that prefers to live this way. I mean, you have to wonder how adults could possibly still be so poor after “working so hard” for decades. They have figured out how to play the system and get free stuff, while putting in a minimal amount of effort on their own.

Another cluster-blank from a pathetic GOPe controlled Congress. This isn't tax reform, it's deductible reform and Rubio wants his pet deduction.

Back again! Having helped, yes door to door, shaking hands, kissing babies and meeting with other Freepers, to get Little Marco elected in 2010, I rue the day I ever decided to do that! I can’t tell you how much disdain I have for Little Marco! He ESAD, as far as I’m concerned! Come next election, my voice will be out there against him!

He’s one of my Senators (and a lot better than the other one!), but he got elected because he sounded conservative, anti-big-government, and he actually addressed people respectfully, that is, intelligently. I have been very disappointed in him, because he doesn’t seem to take the long view and has gone for Obama’s panic-inducing mode (“all the children are going to die of starvation,” or something to that effect). It’s a pity but this seems to happen to a lot of people once they get to the Senate.
