President Trump said Sunday that Sen. John McCain, who is battling brain cancer, would return to vote for tax reform this week if needed to pass the bill, though the senators office later forecasted a January return to Washington.
Mr. McCain had been undergoing treatment for a viral infection at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington but Sunday returned to Arizona to spend Christmas with his family, according to the senators office.
Mr. Trump said he had spoken with Mr. McCains wife, Cindy, and that the senator would be available for the vote, which is expected as soon as Wednesday.
I wished her well. I wish John well, Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House. Theyve headed back [to Arizona]. But I understand hell come if we ever needed his vote, which hopefully we wont.
Senate Republicans have a thin 52-seat majority but the leaders believe they have enough votes to pass the tax overhaul without the Arizona Republican.
But the word is John will come back if we need his vote, Mr. Trump said. Its too bad. Hes going through very tough time, theres no question about it. But he will come back if we need his vote.

As someone who has Leukemia and has been through four Chemotherapy Regimens during the last twelve years, I find your all encompassing viewpoint ignorant and uninformed.
If not for the Chemotherapy Treatments I received, I would not be alive today. I have outlived the initial "expiration" date I was given when I was Diagnosed by over two Years.
The improvements in the Chemotherapy Drugs used and the use of a “cocktail” approach using multiple formulas when planning the Chemotherapy Regimens have vastly improved both the experience and the outcome.
As an aside, we had a close Friend who bought into the type of nonsense you Posted and chose to use “alternative” Treatments for her Breast Cancer. The result is she paid thousands of dollars for unproven Treatments to charlatans and she experienced a long drawn out painful Death from Stage four Bone Cancer less than two years after her initial Diagnosis.. Those Posters who supported your Comments are no less ignorant of the reality that people deal with when facing a Cancer Diagnosis.
Oh, no . . . no. I don’t trust him to vote “yes” even if he says he’s going to vote “yes.”
I do not want the fate of the tax bill in the hands of John McCain.
What if it was decided a vote was needed? McCain knowing the grim reaper comets, resigns, and the AZ gov appoints a replacement. Hopefully someone who can be there in a few hours if not a congress-critter who is already there
