Amtrak is the result of the Federal Government taking over a Private Rail Carrier that was Bankrupt and disbanding, look it up!!

And, as you’ve seen from other posters, Government can’t get the trains to even run on time. (Which may be to our advantage, LOL!)
It might point to the fact that it was an affirmative action hire rather than hiring the best qualified candidate.
Of course, in pre-affirmative action times, there were bad hires made when officials pushed a friend or relative for the job, or when union employees got jobs based on longevity rather than ability.

New equipment, check. Engineer going twice the speed limit -- check. Local law enforcement / judiciary just shrugging their shoulders, no prosecution -- TBD.

At that time Chris Mathews said the GOP treats trains the way they treat Hispanics.
Amtrak engineer Brandon Bostian surrenders on manslaughter charges. Apparently he was involved in a similar crash in 2015 when he accelerated the train to 106 mph in 50 mph curve, that time eight were killed. However prosecutors couldn’t proof conscious disregard. It is safe to say he will not get a third chance.
Here is exactly why it matters.

He even tried to pass a guaranteed annual income known as the Family Assistance Plan, but it failed because that heartless sourpuss Ronald Reagan mobilized an opposition movement that killed it.

#4 I noticed that about all the trains show late. Some are a few minutes but several are 1/hr to 2/hr 41 mins late.
So much for a schedule.
