how many years does it take to recoup the cost of a $10 to $15 led bulb?
oddly enough DEMOCRAT politicians actually made law mandating the curly bulbs completely ignoring LED. ($$$ donations anyone?)
Consumers will have to choose from more efficient bulbs that use no more than 72 watts...Office Depot (the source at work) started stocking cuckoo wattages some years ago (I'm not positive that they stock them any longer, we no longer have to order bulbs) and it was explained that it was due to Calli requirements.
Ping
I hate the CFL’s with a passion I reserve only for communists.
The LED’s are great in many ways, for lumens per watt consumed and bulb life. What I don’t like about them is that they don’t dim very well.
Same here. I hate the curly ones, but the LED are decent enough. I still have plenty of incandescent bulbs in my house though.
I bought 1000 each (100, 75, and 60 watt) of Krypton 10-year incandescent light bulbs when they first started talking about this. I’m going to bequeath what’s left when I die to my kids ... should be more than three-quarters of each.
I like the new LED bulbs in the same form factor as the traditional incandescent.
I don’t understand the resistance. they are far superior to the florescents.
“I think the “natural sunlight” emulating LEDs provide a better quality of light than any incandescent bulb I have ever used. “
Same here.
Resistance to LED is EMOTIONAL and has nothing to do with any other factor.
Get LEDs. I replaced my squiggly 5,000k bulbs which used 23 watts with 12 watt LEDs vs 100 watts for incandescent.
The light is more pleasing then the florescent bulbs and incandescent as you can get them in different shades of light from the oranger/yellowish color of incandescent to noontime light, I use 5,000k which is noontime.
Both easily out last the incandescent bulbs. The LEDs were installed May 2016 and I have yet to replace any.
The incandescent bulbs would last 2 to 3 months then the wire shatters inside with a loud pop.
The heat is gone as well so the a/c easily cools the place.
Bought mine online thru Amazon.

The last time this ripple went around,
I bought three cases of light bulbs.
Still have a whole bunch.
LOL...me too; in fact, the wife and I were in the garage recently and were laughing at all the bulbs we have stored, and were wondering if our heirs would ever run out?
As LEDs got cheaper I switched every bulb in my house that I could. I recently had my kitchen ceiling redone, the o,d fluorescents pulled out, and LED can lights put in. Love the new ceiling!
I just put all new led lighting on our boat. 12 volt.
It depends how long the light is on each day, and how much you pay for electricity (a LOT in CA). A 100w bulb, replaced with a $15 LED equiv will pay for itself in 1 year, if you use it 3 hours a day, and pay $0.17/kwh.
“So that means a lower PG&E bill, too.
Nah, they’ll jack up their rates.
“Of course, no one would smuggle them into the state...”
Probably be a felony.
