Shattuck: Tax cut a victory for freedom – and your wallet

Merry Christmas.

President Trump’s tax reform victory is not only a massive legislative accomplishment but also, and more importantly, a win for freedom. Freedom is making quite a revival under President Trump.

When the president signs the bill early next month, Americans could see a fatter paycheck starting as soon as February and bigger tax refunds in early 2019. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center is estimating that more than 80 percent of Americans will see a tax cut, averaging over $2,000.

It’s their money and they deserve it back, free to do with it what they like. Add to that a soaring stock market and booming economy from a reduced corporate tax rate, and millions may finally have a chance to enjoy a concept believed to be a thing of the past: prosperity.

It is not only through deregulation and legislation that this president is widening the scope of our freedoms. Pro-liberty, conservative judicial nominees are rolling through the confirmation process at a pace not seen since Nixon. Coupled with the seating of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, President Trump is changing the game and shaping the legal culture for decades to come.

Better, smaller, faster. That is the Trump government.

The best part? The Obamacare mandate has been repealed:

http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/20/news/economy/republican-tax-reform-everything-you-need-to-know/index.html

“27. Oh, and the individual mandate on health insurance has been scrapped.”

“Republicans failed to repeal Obamacare earlier this year, but they managed to get rid of one of the health law’s key provisions with tax reform. The elimination of the individual mandate, which penalizes people who do not have health care, goes into effect in 2019. The Congressional Budget Office has predicted that as a result, 13 million fewer people will have insurance coverage by 2027, and premiums will go up by about 10% most years.”

The very cool part of this is not being celebrated, and I don’t think we wanted most RINOs to notice. If Congress tries again to repeal Obamacare, congressional scoring will not show the “loss” of insurance for those 13 million people who don’t want Obamacare insurance. That eliminates a talking point for America’s enemies on the Left and makes it easier for spineless republicans to vote with the American people to repeal the whole disgusting law.

So much winning. I’m not tired of winning. Yet. But I see it could happen.

I’ll be getting to keep about $200. Whoopty do. That won’t cover one electric bill or one trip to the grocery store.

Does anyone know if this tax cut applies to the 2017 tax returns?
