Preserving our own resources HAS served us well in that we still have them to mine for our own needs. They weren’t sold off to the rest of the world leaving us barefoot and naked.

There’s no shortage of these materials, but the process to extract and refine them is complicated, expensive, and time-consuming. Without having our own functioning mines and processing plants we’ve susceptible to having the supply cut off with a long time lag between being cut off and getting our production up and working.
