“How do you prevent South Korea from being flattened. What about Japan? How are we going to protect them from dozens of missiles launched from mobile launchers?”

If I knew the answer to that question I’d be part of the military planning folks. But what I do know is that in the order of things, my life, and that of my family and fellow Americans has to be paramount in how my country goes about formulating and carrying out whatever military actions are necessary for preservation of same.

Kim probably “would do that,” so the way MUST be found, to insure he can’ “Do That!” The idea that using military action to protect our country being “madness” indicates to me that you would prefer to take a nuclear hit in this country before taking any preemptive measures, so in my mind, you are the “mad” person in this conversation.

——How do you prevent South Korea from being flattened——

The tactic is simple. The first actions are to destroy completely command and control. Like Germany in 1944, North Korean officers do not have initiative. They will not act without orders from above.

If the chain of command is severed, there will be no orders from above.

The problem becomes, how good is the intelligence locating the command and control nodes.

I still think that there would, of necessity, be the need for a massive attack on NK’s border installations, because you could not completely rely on the rank and file not commencing firing on Seoul. Seoul’s proximity to the border is a big problem, but with current weapons technology today, it probably doesn’t make as big a difference as it once did.

“Killing a few million people in Seoul is not the action of a sane person.”

Source for your estimate? The highest I’ve read from SK sources is 200,000.

My way keeps a lot of people alive, longer.

Your family will be in no more danger tomorrow than they are today.

Your way has many more people dying. It’s the same strategy which was followed for 25 years which got us to the present situation of NK with nuclear weapons and ICBMs which can strike all of America. Waiting long just increases their stockpile. They have >100 nuclear warheads in the 250Kt range and more missiles than they can put them on. They are producing nuclear warheads and ICBMs as fast as they can and have been threatening America for years.

I’ve seen both figures, it all depends on if the estimates of the numbers of emplaced hardened artillery sites are correct, how much warning, whether the NORKs use gas (something in all the excitement over Nukes & missiles we have forgotten about!), how well the evacuation goes (under attack or not!) and how quickly we can take out the artillery sites (in artillery I include tactical missiles) and probably a dozen other intangibles.

Seriously? You really believe that? Glad you’re not running anything in this country having to do with my safety. Talk about McConnell being a turtle, pal you have him covered in spades.

Although I am in fact a miscellaneous expert, the military complexity of Korea is actually beyond my capacity.

I will not argue with your point.

This issue is a distraction. There is no solution to Korea until after all foreign soldiers have left the penninsula. Until then, there will be an NK with nuclear wepaons pointed at us from now until kingdom come. China and Russia will not back down on their own borders. They care about things besides money. Any war in Korea will be the end of the admin. that starts it. And a 2006 style blowout for the party. Trump’s posturing is not credible because the other side knows Trump can’t survive a war politically.
