The French Foreign Legion is not allowed to set foot in France.

I think they’re not allowed to set foot in Paris, except on Bastille Day. Their homebase is in (IIRC) Avon in southern France.

They have at least one base in southern France, and recruiting stations in various cities. Almost the entire FFL was ‘banished’ from Metropolitan France after the Algeria unpleasantness. A much younger me thought very seriously about enlisting. I spoke French, and had just finished military service in my own country...the Legion seemed like a romantic adventure. In the end, I went to grad school where there was no glamor, romance or adventure!
