Birth tourism brings Russian baby boom to Miami

MIAMI — Lured by the charm of little Havana or the glamour of South Beach, some 15 million tourists visit Miami every year.

But for a growing number of Russian women, the draw isn't sunny beaches or pulsing nightclubs. It's U.S. citizenship for their newborn children.

In Moscow, it's a status symbol to have a Miami-born baby, and social media is full of Russian women boasting of their little americantsy.

In a twist, as the Daily Beast first reported, condo buildings that bear the Trump name are the most popular for the out-of-town obstetric patients, although the units are subleased from the individual owners and it's not clear if building management is aware.

There is no indication that Trump or the Trump Organization is profiting directly from birth tourism; the company and the White House did not respond to requests for comment.

Outlaw “birthright” citizenship if at least one of the parents of the child have not lived and worked in the United States as legal residents for at least five years, only making an exception by granting birthright citizenship to the child AFTER the five-year period has been achieved. And no in-and-out, either. If departing to any other country for an extended period (six months or more) and then returning, the five-year period starts all over again.

Otherwise the child retains the nationality of the parents. Whether raised in that culture or not.

Go home. Just go home.

“Natural-born” should mean something. Otherwise, naturalization should be by the customary means, which includes a test in American citizenship by written examination, in English, and an oath pf allegiance.

I’m glad to see so many of the world’s children are getting quality pre- and post-natal care at such a vulnerable time in their lives (while, ironically, many countries have pro-abortion laws that allow similarly qualified children to be ripped out of the womb and left to rot in dumpsters).

Can Trump do an executive order to stop “anchor babies”? Gee, preggo Chinese women come here. Preggo Russian women come here (and I hear their medical care back home truly is substandard). Preggo Latin women come here. I doubt that’s the end of the list either. Surely there must be some way for the U.S. to benefit from these situations and not just be the baby ward to the world.
