Right cono Navarro and slap those who brung Trump to the dance in the face!?

I think not. At least not without funding for the wall, the military, and end to chain migration and the visa lottery, and if I had my way; and an end to the birthright citizenship loophole that was never meant for cholos eh esay.

The Mexican culture is a proud part of our Texas history.

That’s the meaning in my house when I was growing up. I still use it that way. BTW! My family came to US - LEGALLY - from Spain through Cuba.

It’s a shame how words are twisted to mean one thing here and another there.

In Spanish, is that pusillanimous or the other “pussy”?

I’m a Latina from a W. Texas ranch-the norteno dialect

The "norteno" dialect is what you "Texicans" speak, and not what other Spanish speaking folks use. "Cono" (conyo) does have a negative connotation in the other non-Texican dialects, but not the 4-letter meaning assigned to it in the article above. Puerto Ricans (I was born in P.R.) use the word as if it were as innocent as "stupid". BTW, I myself don't ever use the word, though my mother did and so did/do other relatives of mine, and friends.

In Cuba, “¡Coño!” is closer to “Darn!”.

Very Spain-Spanish-influenced Cuba is. Though it does literally mean female genitalia. In Spain I would hear even old ladies peppering their speech with it.

Some things are just lost in translation.

“I lost my wallet. Vagina!”

You have to be pretty ignorant to believe you can spew an expletive in another language and not be called out. You have no idea who is within earshot that will understand your comment. Using another language as a means of virtual exclusion is a fool's errand in the US. To wit, my father sent me to Von's grocery to pick up salad ingredients. It was Christmas Eve. As I approached the produce area, a pair of women switched from English to German and continued their "private" conversation. I collected my lettuce and tomatoes and wished them "Froeliche Weinachten" on my way to checkout. I would have as glibly offered Joyeux Noel, Feliz Navidad or Nadolig LLawen to a French, Spanish or Welsh conversation.

I’m from a small family ranch in Val Verde county, near the Howard county line, and another cousin has one in Pecos county.

English certainly has its different dialects and accents, too-even from state to state-and in Canada, they use British spelling, too.

I’ve spent some time in Florida-my 1st husband and I had friends there, and one of my cousins married a Puerto Rican she met in the military-they live outside Miami. I’ve noticed that the Spanish dialect prevalent is a bit different than what we speak here-and that Cuban Americans talk much faster than we Texicans do, and the emphasis on some syllables is different. Colombians talk faster than anyone I’ve ever heard, though-it is amazing...

I’ve never heard such a ridiculous thing here-sounds like some kind of ethnic French snobbery you’d hear in Quebec or Montreal. And Texas isn’t California-most of us don’t take kindly to divisive identity politics. We are all mixed up anyway, having been in the New world for hundreds of years-you’d be hard pressed to know how much Spanish, German, Italian or French ethnicity you have even with a DNA test-those people were all European-and we are all mixed with Native Americans to some degree.

Most Hispanics/Latinos are of the Caucasian race-I hate that white nonsense, since Caucasian comes in all shades, from the lily-white Norwegians to the dark olive people from India and Eurasia. Just like Blacks and Asians come in all shades. There are only 3 races-and genetically speaking, they have been mixed since humans decided that a partner from another race would be exotic and a desirable thing to have.

My ancestors were Spanish, mostly Basques from the Pyrenees-they weren’t much into liking the Spanish government, so they came to Spanish territory-what is now Mexico-in the early 1600’s to get further away. By the late 1780’s most decided that what is now W Texas and New Mexico was a better place to ranch and relocated there.

I have ancestors who fought for independence from that much-hated Spanish government in 1821, and for Texas Independence in 1835-36. Many old Latino families have ancestors who fought for Texas independence-they were already Texicans by then-they didn’t owe any allegiance to Mexico or Spain any more.

I’m not a Mexican-Mexicans are from Mexico. But American Latino, Texas Hispanic, Texican, is not offensive.
