Fascinating final pictures of Hitler's deputy Rudolf Hess have been found and put on sale along with a note to his son about his mysterious flight to Britain to try to end the war. The never-before-seen images show the former deputy Fuhrer as a frail and elderly man in the grounds of the infamous Spandau Prison. Hess spent 41 years in the West Berlin jail after the war, when he was convicted of crimes against peace and sentenced to life behind bars. The Nazi hung himself aged 93 in 1987 in the summer house that had been built for him in the grounds.

Maybe so but he’s a strange case which is why he wasn’t executed plus he flew into England before most final solution stuff which was the bulk of the crimes against humanity at Nuremberg

I think Hess was nuts and nobody really knows what he was trying to do

Every single angle of Hess mission has been explored and none can be for sure determined other than he wanted to sue for a good peace with England I suppose prior to Barbarossa

This could have been embarrassing to some formerly powerful people in England.
I was a child at the time of Hess landing in Scotland. The actual facts of what happened will never be divulged in my life time. Top Nazi brass were interrogated by Americans on the defeat of Germany. From what was said by them, Hitler was dismayed by the fact of the unexpected declaration of war by Britain. Other top Germans wanted to get rid of him and negotiate a peace.
There are accounts of the Germans going to the Spanish Embassy and trying to negotiate and end to the air war. This quite early in the war. Churchill overruled the then Prime Minister Chamberlain. He had cabinet ministers Cadogan, Runciman, Halifax on side.
This is speculation of course. On an invasion of Britain,the Royal Family were preparing to fly to Canada. We had pictures of the King with his rifle practicing,ready for the Nazis. Churchill claimed he had a pistol with two bullets. "One for the first Nazi and one for myself". This if Britain fell and Germans entered his war room underground base.
Not too many trenches in the Second World War ... Not too many MG 08 either. Perhaps the author is thinking of the FIRST World War.

I bought the book: “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist: Hermann Göring, Dr. Douglas M. Kelley, and a Fatal Meeting of Minds at the End of WWII” by Jack El-Hai, when it was first released. My son now has it. It’s been a while since I read it, but I believe that Hess is mentioned in it as well as other Nazi officers. I bought the hardcover from Amazon. It’s also offered for Kindle.
Rudolf Hess knew all the names of those in England who betrayed their country. May be some royals and members of parliament. I suspect that was why he was imprisoned so long.

yeah that was him. To tell the other squad they needed to attack or everybody was going to die, if I remember correctly. something like that. He’s also the one that’s supposed to have given 14 Germans a cigarette and then executed them all with his tommy gun.
The picture doesn’t show him in prison. What gives?
