I’m trying to figure out why that requires tariff.

Probably just to upset you.

I think the brand may be obsolete by now since Sears is disappearing year by year.

Sadly the began to disappear when outhouses disappeared. Not to mention when they moved to the slick paper catalog.

It’s just wrong that one can’t order a house by catalog anymore.

I go to a small mom and pop shop for my appliances. They’re amazing. They told us to never buy LG or Samsung.

I always try to do my stuff in white wood-spruce. Since spruce is easier to work with and doesnt warp or split like Doug Fir or other firs.

I built this house with Doug Fir studding. Its the worst crap I ever saw. The guys who did the framing for me said they’d never ever build a house out of it.

So, Spruce, Norway Pine, Jack Pine or the lighter softwoods are the best. Redwood if you can get it.

I live on Cape Cod. There is one Home Depot and 2 other similar type stores, one having 3 locations and the other 2.

I have been to all of them. The HD is on average about 20% less item for item. On a $300 item such as a lawn mower that is substantial. They also have a policy of accepting returns for any reason, no questions asked, no receipts necessary as long as it is an item they carry.

It’s amazing the stories that you will hear about Home Depot. I’ve heard them up here from the locals who actually don’t like Home Depot because they think it hurts the local businesses, which I’m sure it does.

People here have told me Home Depot sells inferior merchandise and what they sell is made especially for them by manufacturers but made cheaply so even though the box says the same thing for the HD product and the local hardware sore or home center products the product in the box is not the same.

Quite amazing how gullible folks are.

I have a 15 year old Maytag.

Was rattling and Sears guy said he couldn’t fix it.

Hired a guy who didn’t work for Sears. Fixed it.

He said appliances are made now to last 3-5 years. Planned obsolescence is what the companies call it. The old ones had a few working parts and no computer chips. Last forever.

Told to fix mine until it dies. Then just buy the cheapest one with the basic parts. No computer chips.

You should normally agree with tariffs. We are getting screwed. For a long time.

All the big box stores sell name brand products built just for them. Walmart is a case in point. There’s a reason why you can buy an identical tv there cheaper than other retail stores.

It’s made cheaper with less quality control standards.

Things change whether we like it or not. Mostly not for me. Telling me I can't ride in the back of a pickup is a bridge to far.

Who could have for seen the biggest problem our kids would have would be deciding if they are a boy or girl?

Yes! I bought a Speed Queen for my tenants and convinced my daughter to buy one, too. Both are wonderful (tenants, daughter AND the Speed Queens). My POS little GE is still doing ok and I can’t justify the purchase, waiting til it croaks.

But o mylanta - adding 2 or gallon pitchers of hottest water to the clothes so the Big Brother machine thinks the load is heavier so it adds water that actually covers the clothes; no agitator blade so whatever is on top stays on top - and folded if you’ve tried that experiment. And the lint!!!!! That was my daughter’s machine, a high end Samsung I think, cost about $1500 for the privilege of not getting anything clean in 2 hours.

The Speed Queens are a marvel, and were more affected by regulations in 2016 or 17. I wish I’d bought one for myself prior to that.

I’ve got a Whirlpool dishwasher that came with the house - it has to be at least 12 years old. I bought a new silverware basket for it last month. It doesn’t work too well, but I know it works better than what’s on offer in the stores.

Doing research for a new dishwasher, I learned the new ones really do not dry, most everyone has to wipe their dishes. It’s common for an inch or two of water to remain standing in the bottom. Most new models have side vents that vent the steam from the sides of the door and destroy the surrounding cabinets.

I think because they don’t use the hottest water available they all have some kind of food filter or disposer, I guess because the water isn’t hot enough to melt things that used to get melted in the good old days.

Also, because they are so inefficient they run for 2 or 3 hours, and most are proud to be “whisper quiet”, but I also blame that on the trend of putting the kitchen in the middle of your living room. Who the hell thinks of these things? The kitchen needs its own space, preferably with a door.

Rant over. I’ll be here all week. :)

I am referring to identical items with identical model numbers such as a Black and Decker drill model xxxx.

The one sold by HD will be identical in every way to the one sold in your local hardware store except it will cost about 20 % less.

Need a washer/dryer? Buy a Speed Queen. Made in America, best warranty in the business, typically last 25 years, don’t cost more than an upper priced Chinese made piece of junk that’s built with planned obsolescence.

Whirlpool still makes their dishwashers here. Mine does a wonderful job. Much better than my daughter’s overpriced kitchen aid (though years ago, they were tops). Mines quieter, too.

Hi LC - that’s good to know! When this Whirlpool dishwasher goes I’ll look for a Whirlpool replacement. May I ask what model you have and when did you buy it?

It’s a “Quiet Partner II”, but it’s at least 5 years old. We have been very happy with it.
