LG is raising washing machine prices due to new Trump tariff
CNN Fake News ^

Posted on 01/25/2018 12:19:58 PM PST by TigerClaws

That didn't take long.

LG Electronics told retailers on Wednesday that its laundry machines will get more expensive due to a tariff announced by the Trump administration earlier this week.

"As a result of the trade situation, we will be initiating pricing actions, which will be sent under separate cover shortly," LG executive Thomas Yoon said in a memo obtained by CNNMoney. The note was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

****** LG said a new $250 million washer factory that's being built in Clarksville, Tennessee should help ease some pressure, since those washers won't be subject to the tariff.

It’s the detergent. They took the phosphate out. Find some actual TSP (not the fake stuff) and use it with the detergent.

Yes, SpeedQueen! Was going to buy a washer a few months ago, but I checked Craigslist first. Found a 20 year old Speedqueen set for $150. They are running strong and actually clean the clothes. I’ll never buy anything but a SpeedQueen again. I believe that even the new ones have a real agitator and you can select how much water you use. Can’t stand the new washers that think they know better than you how much water to use.

I had 250 feet of privacy fence built for me a year ago.

Neighbor of mine. But I had to buy the fencing lumber up front. So off we go to Home Cheapo. 140 six foot boards we bought. Probably rejected 3 times that many.

Rocky would inspect each board before we put it on the cart. Warped, split, inferior boards were tossed on the floor while we both looked for simple decent materials.

I felt kinda bad leaving stacks of lumber on the floor. Rocky could not give a damn. “If they bought good decent lumber in the first place....”

He’s right.

I looked at the LG washers a couple years ago when I had to replace a Maytag that pooped the bed after only 5 years due to plastic made-in-china internals. These newfangled washers may look fancy, but they’re almost 100% made-in-china plastic garbage. And I don’t want a #@%&ing washing machine that will spew error codes at me.

That’s why I went with a Speed Queen. All metal parts, stainless steel tub, good reputation, made in USA. It’s the kind of washer they put in laundromats in Da Hood. It’s also easy to take the control panel off and bypass the stupid water conservation ‘eco’ BS so that the ‘extra large’ load setting actually fully fills the tub like it should.

Hey LG ... try using locally made parts instead of importing them from China.

LG parts are already 4X normal parts and NOBODY services them.
Made that mistake once, never again.
Speedqueen, baby.

Why did you go to home Depot to begin with? After all according to you the quality of their wood and probably all their other stuff is crap right?

The Tariff is because the South Korean government subsidizes LG (and Samsung) so they can sell their washers way below the price of American made washers like Whirlpool, Maytag, etc.
This could force the American companies out of business, then LG & Samsung fully own the market and can charge whatever prices they want.

The South Korean government did this with LG & Samsung TV’s, knocking out all of the Japanese TV makers out of business, just like the Japanese did this in the 1980’s and knocked out all American made TV’s like RCA, Magnavox, Philips, etc.

They are too expensive already, with too many buttons. I don’t want my washer and dryer to look like the control panel of a nuclear sub.
Mine are the simplest Kenmore models I could find, although I don’t know if those were made in the US. I think the brand may be obsolete by now since Sears is disappearing year by year.

And Zenith! Our town had a Zenith factory known for providing GREAT jobs until the outside TVs came in.

IOW, LG has already taken countermeasures based on a sound business decision which will soon benefit their American customers as well.

Good question.

There is a local mom and pop lumber yard in our small town. Their merchandise is all good, but their prices are higher.

All in all I bought over $1500 worth of fencing at Home Depot. I don’t know how much that same material would have cost me at the local mom and pop, but that’s not the point.

The point is - I bought the best material at the best price. I had to reject a lot of “scrap” lumber, but - oh well.

Yes and Zenith.

While I don’t normally agree with tariffs, sometimes they are necessary to have a level playing field

Those parts are literally plastic garbage, I kid you not. I used to work in an industry which exported shredded plastic garbage to China, among other things. They are turned into a variety of export goods from clothing to plastic parts.

So thankful we built our new house a couple of years ago, and so already bought our LG washer, dryer, frig... and our kitchenaid and whirlpool appliances. Our son bought his house last year and bought new appliances. They were expensive enough as is! ‘

I was also thinking this should bring jobs back to US.

LG washers are the BEST! GE are the worst.
