Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., a key senator in the talks to find an immigration deal, came out against President Trump's proposal for a grand bargain, in large part because it would curb legal immigration.
"Dreamers should not be held hostage to President Trump's crusade to tear families apart and waste billions of American tax dollars on an ineffective wall," Durbin said in a statement.
Trump's plan would put 1.8 million immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children on a decade-long path to citizenship. But that comes at a high price for Democrats, as he also wants $25 billion for a border wall and other security measures.
Trump also wants to end chain migration, the process by which immigrants can get their extended family members to America, and also wants to end the diversity visa lottery.
Durbin said that's all too much to ask.
"The White House claims to be compromising because the President now agrees with the overwhelming majority of Americans that Dreamers should have a pathway to citizenship," he said. "But his plan would put the administration's entire hardline immigration agenda — including massive cuts to legal immigration — on the backs of these young people."
Durbin also seemed to dismiss Trump's plan by saying senators from both parties are still working on their own proposal. Many progressive groups also came out against Trump's plan Thursday night.
However, Republicans have stressed that Congress needs to find a solution that Trump can also support, not just one that can survive a close Senate vote.
Least of all them - Durbin and the Democrats merely want to use them...they don’t care about them.
Moore was a freaking nut job and and a piss poor candidate to boot. His weasel words after the allegations first came out wreaked guilt. His campaign commercials looked like they were produced by a group of middle schoolers. He did himself in and Cruz was wise to disassociate himself from that train wreck as were any other out of state politicians. I voted for Moore anyway because I damned sure didn’t wasn a liberal snake in that seat.
You on the other hand. If you and your ilk chose to sit on your hands and allow that Senate seat to fall into the hands of a liberal weasel, you and your merry band of hate filled malcontents will be guilty of undermining Trump’s agenda and the USA.
I know there are a bunch of crazies in the group. Even a large number. But somehow I’m feeling that Trump is positioning himself very carefully and very cleverly to frustrate the Dems in the same way he just did on the government shutdown. And yes, of course the crazies will never get over being crazy. But some who aren’t so far gone just might.
Don't get me wrong, though, I'm not sick of it yet...
Send the foreign invaders home or punish them as out of uniform military combatants under the Geneva Convention rules! Smile dummy Durbin.
How did DC get occupied by the likes of Durbin? Where are real USAians that can properly staff DC.

Levin is STILL an idiot, just about like half of Freepers.
Trump KNEW they’d reject his very reasonable compromise, and would end up looking like obstructionist assholes to the vast majority of folks. Trump now has the moral high ground and can lambast the Dems as intolerant, uncaring, inflexible ideological tools.
What would the not so crazies do to the country’s benefit?
I would like to know which Trump demand the Democrats hate most?
a) money for the Wall
b) end of chain migration
c) end of diversity lottery.
Then come back with a counter-proposal. Passage for Dreamers for the other two. Tell them if they don’t accept, he’ll put all three back on the table.
If they refuse, you can say he even compromised and they still wouldn’t do it. If they *do* accept the counter-proposal, you’ll either have them accepting money for the Wall or an end to chain migration. Winning in Washington is getting 2-out-of-3.

That’s how Dems ALWAYS get 99% of what they want: the GOP keeps “negotiating” until they have “negotiated” away everything.
Trump knows better than to do that, because Trump has watched how the GOP “negotiates” with the Dems.
Trump will (and should) stick with his original offer. Period.
