Dick Durbin: Trump holding Dreamers 'hostage' with immigration plan (Offer Rejected)
Washington Examiner ^ | January 25, 2018 | Pete Kasperowicz

Posted on 01/25/2018 6:10:33 PM PST by Red Steel

Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., a key senator in the talks to find an immigration deal, came out against President Trump's proposal for a grand bargain, in large part because it would curb legal immigration.

"Dreamers should not be held hostage to President Trump's crusade to tear families apart and waste billions of American tax dollars on an ineffective wall," Durbin said in a statement.

Trump's plan would put 1.8 million immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children on a decade-long path to citizenship. But that comes at a high price for Democrats, as he also wants $25 billion for a border wall and other security measures.

Trump also wants to end chain migration, the process by which immigrants can get their extended family members to America, and also wants to end the diversity visa lottery.

Durbin said that's all too much to ask.

"The White House claims to be compromising because the President now agrees with the overwhelming majority of Americans that Dreamers should have a pathway to citizenship," he said. "But his plan would put the administration's entire hardline immigration agenda — including massive cuts to legal immigration — on the backs of these young people."

Durbin also seemed to dismiss Trump's plan by saying senators from both parties are still working on their own proposal. Many progressive groups also came out against Trump's plan Thursday night.

However, Republicans have stressed that Congress needs to find a solution that Trump can also support, not just one that can survive a close Senate vote.

They will reject any deal because they desperately need an issue to run on in the fall. They don’t have ANYTHING and they voted against the Trump economic revival. They need 10 months of crying families being deported for campaign ads. They don’t really care if the DACA dupes are helped or not, it is about helping the democrats.

Logic and reason epic fail;

Durbin said..:
“Dreamers should not be held hostage to President Trump’s crusade to tear families apart”
1. Since Durbin is talking about bringing in extended families, then they are already “ broken apart”
3. Since these dreamers were brought here by their “parents”,!who is actually responsible for “breaking them up”?

Damn sure it isn’t a Trump.

In any case it the job of these alleged Dreamers’ parents to figure out a solution. Not Trump, nor America’s.

It cracks me up when libs claim that deporting the “dreamers” is ripping families apart. If they weren’t born here, and their parents who brought them were not born here, then their families were torn apart when their parents brought them here illegally. They should be reunited in their countries of birth.

Levin may not but just for the admin muttering it they were jumped all over and as they should. This lets me know (even though I already knew) Levin stands behind very hard line conservative principles. He always has and always will

I will say for the most part, Trump spun his wheels his first year. And it’s what I expected, he was learning the ropes, as it is his first elected position, and he had to learn who he can trust and who he can’t.

But now we’re seeing him start to hit his stride, he’s figured things out now, and I think this year is going to be a banner year for Trump, and that’s regardless of what happens in the Mid-Terms.

Exactly. Think the Donks are pissed now? Watch their civil war when the deportations begin and the president says, “Sorry, I offered them citizenship, but the Democrats rejected it.”

I’ve been saying all along that the DACAS are just one expendable platoon of future Democrat voters. They’ve been hiding their replacement population plans behind DACA sob stories. This plan calls their bluff.

Your comment about Levin tells me you know absolutely nothing whatsoever about him and obviously don’t listen to his program

Levin (whom I once respected) had sadly long ago became a tool of the media - I said it; & I MEANT it - prove me wrong, yo....

With the minor exception of wanting Hillary as president...

And that is fine and I’m ok with that however I’m 100% ok with him holding him and ANY OTHER in check to ensure they hold the line. Levin is not the only one. Look to the right under breaking news and you will see a forum blown up when this deal was first proposed

Assuming you’re correct, if Trump vetoes it the voters will rise up and punish him for it? I don’t think so.

Wrong.....one week before the election he decided to vote for Trump and on election night implored his audience to get out and vote for him. No matter how hard you may try to change that narrative it will fail.

I listen to him and do almost every day

How about we give Pelousy and Moonbeam ALL of the Dreamers. Schumer and Turdbin can then move to CA and become Lords of New Dream State, with Queen SanFranNan.

All Trump has to do is demand full funding for the wall in any negotiations and Dems will reject it.

Their base is already revolting over Schumer’s humiliating cave on the shutdown.
