It's easy to setup a monthly donation and "forget about it." In fact, that's actually the point. Setup a monthly donation that you can easily afford and let it automatically come out once a month - allowing you to ignore the constant fundraiser threads.
However, whenever that credit card expires or changes to a new number, you need to remember to go update the info in the FR donation app.
Several times my donation to FR stopped coming out. My wife, who manages and pays all my credit cards, will always update vendors who reach out for updated information. But Free Republic doesn't do that. They don't let you know when the payments stop! I think it's because they are too polite about it.
But anyway, I restored my monthly this afternoon!

I had the same credit card problem. I use Quicken Bill Pay for my normal bills so I made a FR account and set up a monthly recurring payment.
