Just get it over with already and adopt the 1936 USSR constitution, Article 58 and all.

"One of the biggest problems with the Constitution as written is it makes changing anything nearly impossible. Other countries regularly ditch or overhaul their constitutions to deal with new problems — and even America has done so in the distant past."

I would like the author to cite some success stories of "ditching or overhailing". Like Venezuela which has had 26? And how many peaceful transitions of power?

And the distant past comment-that was the Articles of Confederation. He does realize the nature of that organization was very different, doesn't he? How old is this guy again?

“Article 58 and all.”

If you listen to some of the global warming alarmists, they see nothing better than using something like Article 58 to incarcerate, or better yet execute, those of us who know AGW to be a fraud.

Out here in Cal-ee-four-ny-aa there is a fascist clown in the legislature who wants to impose a 6 month jail sentence to waiters who give out plastic straws. It is not a big step from sentiments like that to some of the provisions of Article 58.

They want it, of course, as long as it only applies to conservatives and their other political enemies.

And don’t forget to amend the new Constitution every time you want to criminalize the activities of some dissident, the way the Soviets did.
