The problem for McCabe -- and for the FBI and DOJ in general -- is that there are several ongoing criminal and civil cases where aggrieved parties have the motivation and the means to drag all of this out in public and destroy the credibility of the entire DOJ in the process.

Paul Manafort's legal team, for example, has surely drafted a subpoena to get every paper and electronic file associated with this charade. Carter Page has a civil lawsuit against multiple parties for defamation and libel related to this case -- and apparently Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein's signature is on one of the FISA warrants used against him.
