A year after President Donald Trumps inauguration, analysts and commentators are assessing both his performance in the first year of his presidency as well as the outlook for the remainder of his first term. Entering office as a surprise winner and a political neophyte, many people didnt know just what to expect from Trump. Would he do what he pledged to do as a candidate, or was his campaign rhetoric just a lot of hot air to bamboozle enough people into voting for him? One of Trumps most popular promises was to drain the swamp and, while the president has tried to make some strides in that respect over the past year, there are concerning signs that any swamp draining may be coming to an end.
Personnel Is Policy One of the primary rules in politics is personnel is policy. What a politician says hell do is less important than who he hires to implement his policies. In many cases, the people he hires may not agree with his policies and may work to surreptitiously (or not so surreptitiously) undermine and co-opt him. We certainly see this on Capitol Hill all the time, where class after class of freshman Congressmen enters Congress pledging to fix the way Congress works. Yet time after time they get corrupted by the system in Washington. Why is that? Its because of the people they hire.
Coming into office often with no experience of how things operate in DC, they rely on their respective party apparatuses to staff their offices. Theyll hire Hill veterans as their chiefs of staff and legislative directors, staffers who are more concerned with the future of their careers and who consequently do everything they can not to upset party leadership ...

Lib rag. Turn your head.
Pull this garbage. We are not living in normal times and you can throw conventional wisdom out the door.
We need a bigger drain.
The negative comments made here by lurkers with room temperature IQ's (and we have seen an increase in their number ever since Trump won the White House) ignore the harsh reality of business as usual in Washington.
Trump's punting of the DACA football to Congress, and in the process granting a pernicious Obama EO a new lease on life, and now agreeing to amnestize all of the Dreamers further down the road, in a salute to "bipartisanship", when he could have killed this horror as he promised during the campaign, is a painfully vicious omen that DJT's populist and reform positions, which gave him off-the-charts attendance numbers at his campaign rallies, have been seriously compromised.
To not see the reality of this is to inhabit a Trumpian fantasy world of one's own making, born of wistful thinking and an addiction to matinee idol sentiment.
Trump's SOTU speech was a disaster on immigration and pure pandering to the Democrat left. It gives the architects for altering the composition of the U.S. population and the white genociders everything they want.
And don't give me this "Watch what he does, not what he says" crap. He is doing what he is told to do by the deep state tendrils wrapped around the oval office.
As proof, the temerity of the concept pushed by Trump last night--that the ONLY REASONS to secure the border are to prevent drug cartels and MS-13 gangs from gaining access to the U.S. mainland--is absolutely preposterous on its face.
Where have we heard this illusionistic crap before? It's been official Washington's pro-immigration, pro-open border position for decades.
Wake up and smell the coffee folks. The swamp is not getting drained. Not in our lifetimes.
That ship sailed when Trump's initial conservative picks for staff were deep-sixed, to be replaced by treacherous bastards from the DC cabal. And all 63 million of us have been left, waving, at the dock.
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there.
The CIA doesn't like the competition.
President Trump's deal on immigration is to give 1.8 million people a chance at citizenship over 12 years, in return for quitting diversity visas in favor of merit-based immigration, an END to chain migration, *AND* the wall.
The Dems get a _chance_ at some people becoming citizens over time and lose everything else...I fervently doubt their base will let them vote for that. If they do, they lose the war;if they don't, they lose the issue, their seats, and then the war.
Tell Bill Kristol and/or ShareBlue we over at FreeRepublic said hi.
You puke this crap out and imply President Trump supporters have room temperature IQ’s?
I had something witty to say but you’re not worth it.
Then shoot the Gators.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh2_3WFEqYA&t=610s This is why it is hard. History goes a long way.
Glad to see the truth gets your cute little white bobby socks all in a twizzle. Do you just pant or actually faint when DJT enters the room with his conga line of Black and Hispanic “heroes”? Can you spell “white genocide”? Can you spell “elitist”? Conservatives get NOTHING out of this bipartisan rape except words. And that makes you soooo happy. Whites become the new minority. People like YOU get us to pay to keep the Dreamers on the public dole for 12 more stinking years. Meanwhile the border stays open for business as usual. Oh that’s right, you were born yesterday. You were royally rolled last night. As BJC once said to his most recent conquest, “I’d put some ice on that mouth if I were you”. Don’t let the freezer door hit you in the face on your way out, boy.
You are incompetent at trolling.
I never said Trump supporters have room temperature IQ’s. Learn how to read English before you post adolescent comments on FR and insult its readers’ intellects with your vapid inane stupidity.
You are out of your league playing with me. You know it, too, don’t you? And you know I’m dead-on right. It’s what’s got your you-know-whats all in a wad.
*snerk*.
Trolling 101, try to inflame the target.
Then your second sentence was un-necessarily vague.
My apologies if you can’t write clearer sentences.
Terribly disappointing to see a missing apostrophe in an article title!
