Memo Reveals James Comey Briefed Trump on Dossier Despite FBI Determining Info Was Only...

TEL AVIV — A four-page House Intelligence Committee memo alleging abuse of surveillance authority raises immediate questions about the decision by former FBI Director James Comey to brief Donald Trump and then-President Barack Obama on the contents of the infamous, largely discredited 35-page anti-Trump dossier. The memo relates that in early January 2017, prior to Trump’s inauguration, Comey briefed then President-Elect Trump and Obama on the dossier even though months later Comey would label the dossier as containing “salacious and unverified” material.

Critically, the memo relates that, after dossier author Christopher Steele was terminated months earlier as an FBI source, a “source validation report conducted by an independent unit within FBI assessed Steele’s reporting as only minimally corroborated.” Still, Comey saw fit to brief Trump and Obama on the dossier contents.

Comey’s dossier briefing to Trump was subsequently leaked to the news media, setting in motion a flurry of news media attention on the dossier, including the release of the document to the public. The briefing also may have provided the veneer of respectability to a document circulated within the news media but widely considered too unverified to publicize.

This guy breifed Trump, then a few months later said it was salacious and unverifiable, and now he’s saying it’s the gospel truth. It’s disturbing to think how much our national security may still be compromised because of his focus on running the FBI in such a political manner. The fact he now teaches “Ethics” at William & Mary would be laughable if it wasn’t true. With his record of deceit, who would trust him them with their dog?

He should only be trusted with stretching a rope...after a fair trial, of course.

I understand the point, but the metaphor is not a good one. My dog is loyal and faithful and would be deeply hurt if I even thought about passing his care to someone else. Trusting someone with my dog would be a very high standard of trust not a low bar.

I wouldn't trust Comey with my pet rattlesnake, if I had one.

The best way to understand Comey is as a medieval court player jockeying for personal position by playing both sides.

He went soft on Hillary. But, then in the last week of the campaign, when the Weiner emails showed up, he “reopened” the investigation, which was seen as a blow against her. Then, a mere 3 or so days later, he closed the investigation because the FBI had reviewed SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND emails and decided they were unimportant.

Meanwhile, he is signing off on these warrants based on dossier evidence he knows is crap.

Then, he shows Trump the dossier, and tells Trump that the FBI doesn’t believe the dossier, and isn’t investigating him. BUT... he won’t say that publicly. It’s no wonder Trump fired him.

At the same time, he’s hedging his bets by releasing classified info to a law professor friend at Columbia with instructions to leak it to the press, hoping (sucessfully) that it will trigger the demand for a special prosecutor, who turns out to be his old friend Mueller. And, he’s claiming after the fact that his communications with his friend are now protected by attorney-client privilege.

This SOB is now teaching ethics and writing a book on ethical leadership.

Major weasel!

Comey was setting the President up. There is a reason why he wrote a memo of conversation after each of his nine meetings with Trump.

The original story was that he showed the “dossier” to Trump under the pretext of it being the type of disinformation he needed to see and understand. He lied to Trump which seems to be ordinary FBI behavior.

> “Comey ... medieval court player jockeying for personal position by playing both sides.”

Excellent. That nails the Comey character.

If I were the President, I'd be furious...furious enough to fire the guy....because at the time of the briefing...Trump knew there was nothing truthful in the dossier.

Then to make things worse, we find out it was paid for by Hillary's attorney under miscellaneous expenses...($10 million).

Then to make things worse, little Comey runs to his computer and lays out his "feelings" of his meetings with Trump.

And to make things worse, Comey actually leaks this private info to a friend...

And Comey thinks he's some kind of FBI savior of the world.

In hindsight, his running to his computer and any discussions of the meetings with FBI members was nothing more then Comey's personal entrapment plan....And that is how we got Mueller.

Totally did away with the limelight on Hillary...the loser.

Comey tells Trump the Steele Dossier is a nothing burger.

Comey told the FISA judge it was a serious indication he needed a warrant to spy on Trump’s campaign person three times.

Further, he told the judge that Isakoff was a second validation for it, even though Isakoff was merely using Steele as a source.

The man lies and defrauds judges.

I wonder if the timeline of this meeting corresponded with an upcoming FISA request. Meaning he was doing it not only for the presses eyes but also the judges eyes.

Strongly disagree. Comey was on the side of the black hats. He was trying to entrap and destroy Trump whom he detested.

If he had to pick a side, yeah, it would be black.

But he still played both sides to his benefit, IMHO. He’s a complete snake.

Look, if Hillary had won, he’d make sure she knew that he had gone light on the Weiner emails as well as the original investigation (which was obvious). On the other hand, he was also sucking up to Trump while stabbing him in the back, telling him about the memo and its unverified character.

On balance, black. But for HIM, not for the black hat cause.

Where are all the mental health experts? Comey is clearly a psychopath: Cold, calculating, weak conscience, no regard for others, and no fear about the consequences of his actions.

Exactly. The courtiers have been left running the show. Off with their heads. Courtiers are Betas. They need to be constantly reminded that their power is derivative, not fundamental.

Yup, he breifed it to Trump so he could leak that there was a dossier and it was bad. And since the FBI was engaged that dossier must be true, right? But... "there's an ongoing investigation so now that I've created the impression that this is huge and serious, I am not able to comment on it further."

Remember when people used to say Comey was above politics? Hah! He cleared Hillary for obvious crimes TWICE, then conspired to illegally spy on her opponent and leak classified information damaging to him in order to hamstring him with a baseless and unbounded investigation that would put a cloud over his entire Presidency. Above politics though.

He was already spying on Trump before he cleared Hillary.
