Coca-Colas new Super Bowl commercial celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQIA community along with a special wink-wink, nod-nod to the non-binary/transgender crowd.
The commercial, which is scheduled to air during the fourth quarter of Sundays game, includes a same-sex couple and a person who identifies with the pronoun them.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports it may be the first time the soft drink giant has referred to a person in a major commercial with that pronoun.
Coke spokeswoman Kate Hartman told AJC.com the company wasnt seeking to overtly highlight any particular group. People who are viewing it will take each scene and interpret it in a way that is unique to them.
It is supposed to be one positive message of inclusivity, she told the newspaper.
The LGBTIA (etc) community gave Coca-Colas inclusive Super Bowl commercial a thumbs up.
Theres a high probability that parents might be faced with the awkward possibility of having to explain to their youngsters why the person in the Coca-Cola is neither a he nor a she but is in fact a them.
I recommend that moms and dads simply explain that these days political correctness trumps grammatical correctness.
Perhaps next year Coca-Cola will pay homage to all 72 genders as identified by the scientists at Facebook. Nothing celebrates diversity quite like a two-spirit, pansexual, gender-fluid they slurping an icy cold Coke during the big game.
But this is just one more reason to avoid the Bread and Circuses that are highlighted today.
One more reason to not watch.
I wonder if they will experience a “Macy” or “Target” effect. I can’t help make it happen because I’m at zero consumption already.
New uses for Coke bottles? /S
How does this broaden their advertising appeal?
At some point you have to weigh the pickup from pandering against the loss from aggravating existing customers.
And Pepsi changed their logo in 2008 to honor Obama’s lies of “Hope and Change”.
All these idiots companies going liberal love fest....
Golf is on.
What? I’ve seen some acronyms with at least 15 characters, what kind of uninclusive bigots are they? ;)
I’m dreading watching this with my 16 and 13 year olds. I would turn the whole thing off but my husband is from Philadelphia and a big Eagles fan.
[One more reason to not watch.]
As it was in the Days of Lot....
I'll switch to RC then.
I’ve always liked the taste of CocaCola but have not purchased one in many years.
For health reasons.
Now, my lack of custom will also be to object to this corporate depravity
how sickening (and needless) of Coke to do this!
How about celebration of families, mom and dad and kids?
Why does celebrating diversity always entail celebration of a steady parade of extreme and alternative lifestyles? Isn’t part of the diversity and mosaic of America the mainstream families many of us grew up.in?
NFL: Negros, Felons, and, Liberals.
I descend from a long line of practicing heterosexuals. Both sides of the family.
Come to think of it, so does everyone else on the planet, including every one of the alphabet soup crowd. Funny how that works.
RC Cola for me.
Apparently coke thinks pandering to the sodomites and the Gommorahans is likely to increase sales. No coke products for me, ever again.
Yeah, but Pepsi mimicking the Obummer logo did them in for me...
Me too. I drank a couple of Diet Cokes a day for years, but haven’t had one in at least 15 years. I really don’t get the compulsion to appeal to a tiny sliver of the market, a sliver that repels most others.
I would boycott them, but I don’t use any of their products anyway.
