I can't remember the name right now, but there is a prominent feminist and current male hater whose mother used to repeatedly take her to a women's shelter (where the mother worked) where women had been beaten and generally treated badly by the men in their lives. The girl was only about 10 years old at the time.
Speaking of child abuse as you have, the girl has turned into a raging, activist, angry lesbian.
I do believe that her mother taking her to that shelter had a strong influence on what she is today.
