San Francisco Bay Area Experiences Mass Exodus Of Residents

SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) – The number of people packing up and moving out of the Bay Area just hit its highest level in more than a decade.

Carole Dabak spent 40 years living in San Jose and now she’s part of the mass exodus that is showing no signs of slowing down.

The retired engineer’s packing up and calling it quits about to move to the state of Tennessee.

“I loved it here when I first got here. I really loved it here. But it’s just not the same,” Dabak said.

Of course people come and go from the Bay Area all the time, but for the first time in a long time, more people are leaving the Bay Area than are coming in. And the number one place in the country for out-migration is now, right here.

Russell Hancock with Joint Venture Silicon Valley said, “Silicon Valley has been this place that is growing. And it was mostly due to people relocating here and relocating from other parts of the world. That’s changing.”

Joint Venture Silicon Valley’s own study of the out-migration says workers are moving to Sacramento, Austin, and Portland due to a number of factors. But topping the list is the high cost of housing.

“You can’t even contemplate getting into the housing market here,” Hancock said. “And I don’t mean just service workers, but highly skilled professionals. The tech elite are having a hard time affording reasonable housing in Silicon Valley. That makes it difficult for employers to recruit.”

Operators of a San Jose U-Haul business say one of their biggest problems is getting its rental moving vans back because so many are on a one-way ticket out of town.

Dabak cites crowding, crime and politics as the reasons for her own exodus.

“We don’t like it here anymore. You know, we don’t like this sanctuary state status and just the politics,” she said.

She plans to sell her home for about $1 million, buy a much larger place near Nashville for less than half that and retire closer to family and friends.

Are there lotsa vacant unsold homes on the market, with multiple price reductions?

Not in our area. Public schools are some of the best in the state and country, and people are overbidding on houses still. Not sure how much longer that will continue. Just hoping long enough for my wife and I to sell and leave the area.

“...Can’t blame them from leaving that @@@@hole....”
My brother lived in Fresno for over 40 years. He finally had enough of their BS. Quit his job, sold his home and just moved to Texas. He now has a better job and home...and a much better gun...LOL. Once established, he went out and bought guns & ammo. He’s not a lib and loves the POTUS.
He basically says the same thing: when he first went out there, it was great with a good job and all. Then, as the communists took over, it became worse and worse. High cost of living on everything, higher and higher taxes, more and more draconian laws. He finally had his belly full of it and left the sh-thole.

Doesn't sound like a Koolaid-drinking liberal.

If any Koolaid-drinking liberals are reading this, whatever you do, *don't* move to Tennessee. We're all Trump-loving, violent, gay-bashing rednecks with lots of guns and missing teeth who drink heavily except on Sunday morning. Even the women. You'd hate it here.

(Well, the guns part is true.)

A lot of them are moving to Sacramento, CA. Mostly because just north of Roseville, CA is a lot of room to grow and set up high-tech companies there at a fraction of the cost of Silicon Valley.

For those of us that have lived in Taxifornia long enough, we were able to experience the state when it was the model state of the nation in virtually every metric you can imagine. Looking back to the early 70’s when we had a RESPONSIBLE, CONSERVATIVE government run by real Repubs then, the state had it all. I recall one morning, picking up the local rag, and seeing the headlines about how the governor and the legislature were arguing about how to return a BUDGET SURPLUS of several BILLION dollars to the taxpayers. Yes, a budget surplus, a REAL surplus.

Then the voters started sliding left, and the demographics of the state went into the toilet and a very corrupt and power-focused liberal government took over. And everyone knows what has happened to us since then. The VOTERS let it all happen.

The last time I checked, the K-12 education ratings for the state are in the lowest few in the nation. All the metrics are shot. Many of the people leaving the state are the providers...the producers....not Jerry Brown’s welfare state voters. The bad ones are staying to live in their socialist mecca with their votes being paid for by the RATS.

They always save the details for last.

While Nashville is an improvement and more affordable, it’s also a liberal septic tank filled with Democrats and illegals.

Yep! Their ignorance of economics and history make them consistent liberal voters only to destroy everything in their path, without ever knowing that they are wholly responsible. Stupip a$$es ever one of them.

“Metastasize. They’ve destroyed their own ‘Golden State’ and now move to RED STATES to start the process all over again.................”

Exactly. The decline of Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada are ‘pudding proof’ that kalifornia refugees are much like a cancer.

The Massholes are definitely a problem here in Florida but when mentioning the New Yorkers I try to limit my bias to those from NYC as it seems to me the upstaters from NY are a decent bunch. As far as NYC goes, it includes the near by counties of New Jersey. The siren alert comes as soon as someone from those areas begins a conversation with: they had this amenity or do it this way where I used to live. My thought on hearing that is then why did you leave followed by there is a north bound side of Routes 95 and 75, take it.

I moved to the East Bay of SF more than 40 years ago for a job transfer. Thought it was fine albeit a bit left center. Over the next 15 or so years the decline began to increase with a spill over from SF into Contra Costa county. I managed to get a transfer to Texas, thank God, and finally retired to my Wife's former area in North Florida 20 years later. I am beginning to see a slide here now equal to that from 40 years ago in the east bay but fortunately from a more conservative level. I figure by the time it gets to center left, I will be in the National Veterans Cemetery.

Sadly, they’re probably still voting DEM after the moves.

THAT'S THE PROBLEM! There is a mental disconnect between their actions and their results. They DO NOT EQUATE THEIR VOTING DEM WITH THE WAY THINGS ARE. It is an absolute mystery to them that their voting for liberal pols is what made their great state the way it is. They will move to other states and continue to vote DEM and expect a different outcome...................Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result each time....Einstein.....
