Trump prefers oral report to reading daily intel briefing: report
The Hill ^ | February 9, 2018 | JACQUELINE THOMSEN

President Trump is declining to read his daily brief and is instead having officials orally brief him on certain issues, The Washington Post reported Friday.

Trump is breaking with precedent set by seven past presidents in choosing to rarely read the daily briefing, which includes what officials have deemed to be the most important U.S. intelligence from hot spots around the globe.

Reading the report is not Trump's chosen "style of learning," one source told The Post.

I don’t how long these things are, but take a look at a transcript from a segment of Rush’s show. There’s a lot to read from what was said in just a few minutes.

X42 always insisted on being briefed orally.

And the more you can get reporting you can create a certain harmonic resonance until you can gain full agreement across the entire media spectrum.

Lol, so if someone is “her a long time” that somehow makes him as*hole proof?

How about you, sparky, you been here so long that I can’t tell you to GFY?

Being briefed orally allows questions and answers - more interactive and potentially more informative.

My thoughts exactly.

The Post is recycling talking points from late 2016—they’re getting short on material.

If they are getting short on material, they aren’t paying attention. Do you read the Post?

You must think members of congress write their own bills too.

And didn’t Clinton have to have her’s printed out. That is why Huma said she had them sent to her home because the printer at the state department wasn’t any good?

Yes, and they’ve been floating this same talking point since the election, as I said.

There's a not-so-famous exchange on this subject, Kessler v Thiessen, which summed up the threat matrix approach from Nixon through Bobo, which I have further summated and snark filtered:

Nixon: PDB, aka All Kissinger Always
Ford: PDB, oral
Carter: PDB, no oral, Zbig
Reagan: PDB, no oral
Bush I: PDB, oral, raw intel
Clinton: PDB, rare oral [lol]
Bush II: PDB, oral, Cheney
Obama: PDB, >50% oral, Rice
Trump: PDB?, oral, Kelly/Coats

To me, it's each his own. If it were me, I'd probably be like Bubba, read read read, ok. But then you realize, one, had Clink taken vigorous briefings, the Gorelick Wall would have been breached, and 9/11 averted; and two, most of the mistakes in Serbia could have been avoided.

Carter, with meetings, could he have avoided Iran? (probably not, given Zbig led him by the nose into it); Reagan, is there a chance an open discussion would have moved the Marines to a safer spot in Lebanon outside Beirut (as had been suggested).

So I'm very appreciative of Trump indulging many different opinions. Dan Coats is a good man. Pompeo is West Point. Kelly is a competent ringmaster.

didn’t 0bama miss over half of his daily briefings, but that didn’t seem to bother the media any.

I’d make them follow me around and do it while I was getting ready for work. Every single morning. 😂 Before I started working from home and actually had to get ready and drive to an office, that time was usually spent planning my day anyway. Whether I wanted to or not. Lol

Exactly so.

It also very importantly allows for the executive to change direction, reassign priorities, and to force coordination with various rice bowl holders. Cuts through the froth.

The bigly picture....

Does it matter? Heck NO, unless you are anti-Trump then you use it to make bogus allegations.

I use to write and give an oral intel briefing as part of the Army Operations Center morning brief to the primary members of the Army staff when I was at the Pentagon, now going on 35 years ago. The written brief was distributed to the Army staff as part of the AOC packet after the principles were given the oral version.
