Democrats blocked a vote Tuesday on cracking down on sanctuary cities as the first day of the immigration debate began with a whimper.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer said debating sanctuary cities would be getting off “on the wrong foot,” insisting this week’s floor fight should only be about illegal immigrant “Dreamers” and border security.
The early jockeying underscored the problems the Senate is about to face.
Democrats had begged for a “fair” process to debate immigration, but are now worried about just how wide-ranging that debate will be, and are trying to shape the amendments that will be offered.

Well, Ryan threw McStain under the bus, this morning...on the 0Care failure, so perhaps Ryan’s getting with the program. Maybe McTurtle is also taking notice and will change the voting rule.

If I understood a legal expert on TV, it was impossible to withhold funds for sanctuary venues because we were operating under the budget of Obama.
With this new budget signed, we can attach strings to the issuance of the funds. You don’t cooperate with federal law, you do not get funds.
I am assuming what they passed the other day was a budget, in spite of the fact that it is only for two years.
My guess is that’s exactly Trump’s plan. Notice how he keeps mentioning/tweeting March 5th:-)

I believe that’s what this is all about with the Dems, they don’t want to address the possibility of increasing the areas where funds can be denied to sanctuary cities.
What if the government provided a $100,000 payment in death benefits to every citizen who was killed by an illegal immigrant? The illegal immigrant had to be identified and the cause of death had to be demonstrated by a preponderance of the evidence. This would encourage people to come forward to collect the benefit and create a record of all deaths of citizens caused by illegal immigrants.

The Dems don’t want sanctuary cities to be deprived of any federal funding because of their illegal claim of sanctuary status.
