Everything about that piece of crap is perverted and corrupt. And it sure feels good to come right out and say it.
Yes; they’re both going to be very dated, pretty quickly.
(Taste is something you CAN acquire - you don’t have to be born to it. But if you eschew the entire notion, you’ll have to live-down stuff like this forever.)
Well, he does stand out.
Barack looks like mother nature and Michelle looks like Father Sky.
They are awful paintings. No sense of shadow, light source, or placement on either of them. His background, with no shadows of him or his chair, in front of what looks like leaf wallpaper, is repetitious, and the 3 flower blooms don’t have foliage, nor do they grow on walls..
The garish dress on her will cause even Michelle Obama to feel embarrassed in the very near future. Her painting looks like one of those cheesy Vargas or Patrick Nagel gold colored framed hair salon poster art pieces from the late 1980’s.

One artist's gimmick is making the model's clothing more alive than the model.
The other artist's gimmick is making wallpaper the background for everything.
It's kind of a crutch, isn't it?
They guy could do very good paintings, but it's easier to use wallpaper patterns than to paint real background scenes.
He must have a theory that convinces people that there's some deep reason for painting the way he does.

Imagine if some white “artist” got off painting white people holding the severed heads of blacks? It would be a “hate crime” and he or she would be carted off to jail somewhere. But if the shoe’s on the other foot, this racist scumbag is honored and has a painting hung in our National Portrait Gallery.

Who the hell approved the selection of the painter and who approved the actual portrait? This is a typical Obama big "FU America." I would think somebody has the authority to reject these two monstrosities.
