“As McCarthy says, there are only two possibilities”

I interpret what McCarthy is saying a little bit differently, and I think he is still giving too much benefit of the doubt to the DOJ/FBI, given that he is a DOJ alumnus.

I think what he is saying here is that both possibilities are legitimate opinions to hold at this point. McCarthy at this point seems somewhat agnostic himself, awaiting further developments.

But at least McCarthy admitting that Alternative A is a legitimate opinion to hold is progress for him. (And to the contrary I don’t believe, based on what has been uncovered, that Alternative B is a legitimate opinion to hold at this point.) This has come after he very recently admitted to his readers that he was wrong in holding the view that the DOJ/FBI would never use uncorroborated campaign oppo research to petition a court for a warrant to spy on American citizens. McCarthy essentially apologized to his readers for being so irrational on this point in the past.

What I would very much like is for McCarthy to come around to the view that we need a new special counsel, independent of Obama and Clintons and the DOJ/FBI Washington establishment, to investigate these abuses of government power, such as the FISA warrant abuse and whether there was abuse of British spying abilities to go after US citizens and the conspiracy to fix the investigation into Hillary and so on.

For example, was the appointment of Special Counsel Mueller contrived as an attempt to remove Trump from office before he could collect evidence of wrongdoing in the Hillary investigation and other matters and prosecute people? If so, that would be a conspiracy to obstruct justice. There is certainly more reason to suspect that than to suspect President Trump of obstructing justice by replacing Comey with his own appointee.

The independent prosecutor function has been much abused and is flawed in many respects. But the one circumstance where it has a legitimate role - where there appears to be or have been corruption throughout the top ranks of the DOJ and FBI - faces us here. The DOJ/FBI is not competent to investigate themselves.

The piece by McCarthy really scared the heck out of me.

From the outside looking in, it has appeared that attempts to frame Trump were a cross between the Keystone Cops and Don Quixote tilting a windmills by desperate Obama dead enders who had little chance to succeed

From McCarthy's insider perspective, the plot was carefully planned, well supported, well coordinated with the media circus and Antifa riots we saw last year and, absent outside intervention, very likely to succeed.

In fact, even after being exposed for what it is, the plot may still succeed if the Democrats succeed in the mid term elections
