MANBIJ, Syria The large section of northeastern Syria once occupied by the Islamic State is now a rare safe area in the war-ravaged country, thanks to an American-backed coalition known as the Syrian Democratic Forces. The coalitions fighters, who with American help drove the Islamic State from the region, are Arabs and Kurds, men and women, young and old. Many are veterans of multiple battles and have been wounded, but returned to the fight again and again. Here are a few of them.

Well worth the time.
The fact the the New York Times is praising them makes me a little suspicious.
“The fact the the New York Times is praising them makes me a little suspicious.
my first thought too ...
That's easy. The NYT will later write that these same people are the ones Trump wants to keep out of the USA with his "muslim" ban.
That pre disposition toward the NYT is something I have also.
They did not do this internally. It was brought to them and someone had enough intelligence to actually print it.
I’ve seen some other interviews they did, which is rare, that also did a good job of representing elements within the SDF. One I remember was about Rojda Felat, the head of the YPJ (female Kurd element).
I thought it was a good article. In spite of coming from the NYT.
By the way, my Syrian Kurd friend do not like the NYT because they were constantly not getting anything right about things they put in print, from their desk in NY. smile.
“Some great photography of some individuals who the US helped to defeat ISIS in Syria. Must go to the link for the photo’s and short bios. Well worth the time.”
absolutely!
Have they found Austin Tice yet? I believe he went missing in Syria in 2014.
I don’t know anything about that. Who was he connected with?
Perhaps. But give them 20 years to turn on us like the mujahedin did..
Glad you approved.
There are several photographers who do excellent work there. I truly respect them. It is a very dangerous thing they do.
Austin Tice was a journalist covering the conflict in Syria. http://www.austinticefamily.com/
Austin Tice, Jounalist Held In Syria, Is Alive, White House Tells His Parents
That was on January 2, 2017.
That sounded like an affiliate of Syrian government held him captive. My guess is possibly Iranian Quds milita.
If you like, I will inquire with some of my friends in region. One in Lebanon might know about him, another in Rojava is very well informed about this type of thing. I’ve not heard about him before.
When I went to the link you furnished, it has some cross scripting that messed with my browser. I run Zero Script plugin.
OK. here may be the issue:

Austin Bennett Tice (born August 11, 1981) is a freelance journalist and a veteran U.S. Marine Corps officer who was kidnapped while reporting in Syria August 12, 2012
“a veteran U.S. Marine Corps officer”
That is probably why, the Iranians would likely target that. There are Hezbollah and Hamas both in the Damascus/Lebanon area, as well as Quds.
They left out the part that a significant number of the Arab members of SDF are Jihadists and former ISIS members. NeoCon propaganda.
Yep....it’s best to always be on the other side of a NYT claim.
Yeh, let’s ID them so they can be assassinated. Dam social media.
What is the NY TIMES selling?
Something very big seems to be about to go down in Syria.
