The louder this Sheriff gets, the more questions I have which include:
1) What formal active-shooter training did the Sheriff provide to/mandate for his deputies, especially those assigned to schools?
2) Did this Deputy complete any such training? If so, when? If not, why not?
3) Why was this Deputy assigned to the school? Was it his seniority and he chose it, or was he put there to ride out until his retirement because of any disciplinary/problem history?
4) Was this Deputy given any kind of “stand down” order?
If anyone thinks my intent is to make excuses for this Deputy, it is NOT.
I think there may be more, higher, layers of this onion that need to be peeled.
The fact that this Sheriff came out so publically throwing his now former Deputy under the bus, so far as to say he “makes me sick” was a big red flag and unprofessional, and smells to me of someone trying to deflect blame.
Malfeasance, misfeasance, nonfeasance - the trifecta of corruption, cowardice, and dereliction of duty.
So...these are the only people that are supposed to have guns???
you know, I don’t have a death wish, far from it. There are some fun things left on my bucket list. That said, I’ve done everything I need to do. I occasionally chaperone high school events with my friend - who is the staff security liaison. When I’m at those events I keep at least one, sometimes several loaded firearms locked in my car. Yes, on school grounds - legal in my state. If something were to happen I would be headed for my car at a run, and then back inside, no hesitation. My friend is set up the same way, and we’ve planned for an incident, even rehearsed. At the start of the event we exchange spare car keys - just in case. No one is getting a free pass to hurt our kids, it will end sooner rather than later, and cost them everthing. I literally would rather die trying rather than have to admit I stood by and did nothing. No way. No effing way.
Absolutely despicable. You had one real job to do and you failed miserably. Ever since Columbine LE has been trained to enter the building immediately upon arrival. No staging, no waiting for back up. Just make entry immediately, locate the offender and neutralize with extreme prejudice. And this guy was the school resource officer. He had to have known that! Now he gets to live with the blood of all those victims on his hands because he failed to do his duty when it counted the most. I would spit in his face if I ever saw him. And I say that as someone who was on the front lines in Corrections. I ran to many man down calls and officer needs help calls. I never shirked my duty and I never had to answer to my fellow officers or higher ups about not doing my duty. And when the call went out in my Air National Guard unit for volunteers for Afghanistan, I raised my hand and I did my time there. And unlike most people who were there, my time included going outside the wire. So I know what it’s like to be on the front lines, knowing there are people counting on me, just as I’m counting on them. And so reading this story just sickens me. Absolutely sickens me.
This young man hadn’t even enlisted, yet.

No, I mean his boss, the sheriff, needs to resign.
Yes. Him too.
Along with those who decided that “little crimes” should be ignored so that the prisons in Broward County would be empty.
The cop who came to my employer for active shooter "training" said the same thing. We are defenseless of course (I stay for the money). The cop said when he and the partner get there, they go in and find the bad guy. His traning for us was basically to not be mistaken for the bad guy.
One more tip for whoever might be interested here. Posting a duplicate of a previous article by excerpting a different part of the article is not allowed.
Only an excerpt where the original article has different text from previously posted (original) articles is allowed. In other words, if an excerpt of an article has already been posted, a different excerpt from that same article is not allowed.
For a title search using the FR search utility, it’s best to try searching using only a few of the first few words in the title. This is because some posters tend to shorten the long titles a little too much.
It’d be best if protecting officers/guards/armed staff, had skin in the game. CHILDREN AT THE SCHOOL!
