Trump's Generals Are Too Valuable to Be Dismissed
Townhall.com ^ | March 1, 2018 | Victor Davis Hanson

Near-daily gossip surrounds Donald Trump's three marquee generals.

The media sometimes blare out rumors that Gen. John Kelly, the White House chief of staff, is proving to be a loose cannon and might soon be fired.

Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser, is occasionally rumored to be a robotic PowerPoint wonk and hawkish interventionist who soon might be terminated.

Secretary of Defense Gen. James Mattis is purportedly too much the centrist Democrat, and embarrassed by Trump's antics, and thus might be leaving.

Of course, few Cabinet or White House appointees ever serve throughout an entire administration. Burnout is natural. Lucrative private-sector job offers multiply monthly. Normal people do not enjoy living inside the Beltway.

Barack Obama had four defense secretaries, three national security advisers and five chiefs of staff. That is about par for a presidential tenure covering eight years.

But the problem with all these rumors of departing generals is not just that they are likely false and shopworn. They also make no sense because the three generals have been radically successful. In just a year, they have markedly enhanced U.S. national security as well as the image of the Trump administration itself.

The media, which is mostly anti-Trump, has always been schizophrenic in the coverage of the three generals. Some media outlets initially echoed old worries about too many Pentagon tentacles or the militarization of the executive branch. They forgot that generals, both active and retired, have long held administration jobs. Gen. Colin Powell, for instance, served four different presidents, starting with his tenure as national security adviser under Ronald Reagan.

We have trannies being enlisted on his watch. And the guy thinks it’s DOD’s job to defend Islam.

Name one thing that Mattis has done to reverse the Obama administration’s efforts to turn the U.S. military into a freak show for sexual deviants?

His policies continue the degradation of military fitness and further the social experiment of the Obama years. Seems to fit as a Democrat, albeit a tad more radical than a so-called moderate. Moderate Democrats are they like moderate mussulman - having existence only in the press?

He has done absolutely nothing to reverse Obama’s military destruction policy, rather he has continued it.

Politically, I am suspicious of all three of these guys.

Kelly, Trump's Chief of Staff, got his third and fourth stars from Obama.

McMaster, Trump's National Security Adviser, got all three of his stars from Obama.

Mattis, Trump's Secretary of Defense, already had four stars when Obama was elected.

However, the fact that Obama retained Mattis for four years, until Mattis was 62 and a half years old, was disturbing to me.

More disturbing, the U.S. Senate confirmed Mattis as Trump's Secretary of Defense by a vote of 98-1.

Bottom Line - the Democrats NEVER make ANY political mistakes about their appointments.

The fact that all three of these generals have the solid endorsement of Obama and most Democrat senators should worry Conservatives very much.

No one can dispute this. These guys have manned up as you would expect them to. Not part of the shadow or deep state so their interest lies in the protection of the American people.

Now take the DOJ under the leadership of Sleepy Hollow Sessions, the Swamp Dweller and Deep State protector extraordinaire. What has the DOJ accomplished that is even close to the destruction of ISIS? Nada. We would be lucky if the pissers still work at the DOJ

Mattis and McMaster seem to be advocating the kind of globalist war-mongering agenda we voted against. They aren't advocating conservative, back-before-Obama regulations to clean up who's in the military. They and Nikki Haley don't seem to do anything in line with the Deplorable Agenda.

Kelly's just fine. He's strict, he's conservative, and the folks he's offending are those who are immature in the ways of the real world. They're not used to having to follow rules. Jared and Ivanka should go, too.

“Mattis and McMaster seem to be advocating the kind of globalist war-mongering agenda we voted against.”

We have global threats that must be dealt with. Obama greatly dimished our capabilities and they are following the President’s edicts as laid out from the beginning.

I’m not liking that President Trump bought into more time trying to buy off leaders to control Afghanistan. We’re also on the wrong side, still opposing Assad. Trump’s much too pro-Israel. Controlling North Korea by there being ongoing negotiations between them and the South makes sense. NK did behave during the Olympics, when they were included.

Should Mattis stay I will personally pay for his blepharoplasty. The duffle bags under his eyes are distracting.

The only degree to which the idiotic/evil McMaster has been successful is in having his massive proposed troop deployments scaled back by Trump.

Speaking from inside the 5-sided birdcage, the new administration is refreshing. There is never a dull moment.

Assad will never ever be pushed out. Putin will never allow it and currently holds a strategic nuclear advantage. Tell me how you would win in Afghanistan militarily where no super power has ever been able to win militarily. NK will eventually boot the looney.

I hate when they refer to these guys as “The Generals.” It makes it sound like a Junta.

So me where any other cabinet has been made up of people responsible for “corporations” worth trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of people.

I guess Exxon would count...but he is with Trump too.

My point of view is that there are very few people who advocate diplomacy over war more than a Marine General. But when the time comes to go to war, there is no better leader than a Marine Corps General.

I despise McMaster and believe he works against Trump rather than for Trump.

The other two? I see no reason for keeping either one.

If Mattis defies Trump by allowing the trannies (along with the homosexuals) to serve it will prove he’s a liberal and a failure as SecDef. He will have completed the left’s long-term strategy of destroying our military. Here is a preview:
