I thought even if the sanctions were awarded, they would never be implemented, because both sides have too much to lose.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Unlike the current Steel/Aluminum case (not authorized by a WTO case, but being implemented by US under “national security”), the Airbus subsidies have been declared illegal by the WTO and US tariffs will be authorized.

The EU will have no legal standing to issue retaliatory tariffs. Trump will be following Treaty rules.
