China's rubber-stamp lawmakers on Sunday passed a historic constitutional amendment abolishing a presidential two-term limit that will enable Xi Jinping to rule indefinitely. The amendment upends a system enacted by former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping in 1982 to prevent a return to the bloody excesses of a lifelong dictatorship typified by Mao Zedong's chaotic 1966-1976 Cultural Revolution. "This marks the biggest regression in China's legal system since the reform and opening-up era of the 1980s," said Zhang Lifan, an independent, Beijing-based political commentator.

What was Chairman Mao?
Yep, and the left in the US is more interested in making comments about Trump ‘going full dictator’.
The left elitists are besides themselves envious, they would have loved to see the impostor or Hillary take the throne here in this country
What was Chairman Mao?
—
Read some 20th century history, but for starters he murdered 79 million people ...
Where are all those brilliant Americans who told us that opening China to the world and making them a part of the international trading system - granting MFN status and opening US markets to them and allowing US firms to move there to take advantage of cheap labor - where are they now, decades later, those who told us all these changes would turn China into freedom loving democrats and cooperative members of the world community?
I know nothing about Chinese history, but it seems to me that Chinese rulers must have ruled until they died or were killed for the last few thousand years.
The Marxist turds who loved obama would have loved it if he were proclaimed president for life.
The leftist Demon-rat party already implemented president-for-life..... Franklin Delano Roosevelt!
The American people rejected the concept by amending the constitution!
I got a feeling that was supposed to be sarcasm in that post youre responding to.
It is the Chinese unofficial and forbidden nickname for Xi. Take it for what it is, its the People’s name for him as long as they are not overheard.
I think Xi must have opposition building to him now. Before this his opponents could just wait out his term; now,
they may feel they have to act at some point.
China’s political scene therefore may not be all that stable.
Companies and investments should begin to pull back from China, immediately. The Purge will begin soon.
China and its dynasties.
"Hail Emperor Ming"
I still play Queen's music in the _Flash Gordon_ movie.
"Hail Emperor Xi!!!"
And it will make much better political theater to always refer to Xi as "Emperor Ming".
Yeah, really historic there...
Electing a dictator for life is TOTALLY unheard of.
Stupid “reporters”.
China is never as stable as people think it is. We have shootings, they have riots. A lot of them, much more than what reaches the international press.
This is not a good long term move, it will eventually turn them into Venezuela. This also means we should wean ourselves from their exports pronto. On the good side, it will make them easier to compete with.
What(not who)was Chairman Mao? What were all their Emperors? Make a list of all rulers of China who didn't rule for life. Now make a list of all rulers who did rule for life. Which list is longer? No kidding... So tell me. Why is China's move to make Xi to rule indefinitely, historic?
