Senate confirmation is not required to put Pompeo in there in an acting capacity (because he is currently serving in a position that he was confirmed by the Senate for). But as I understand it, he will still need to be confirmed as SOS to make it permanent.
Same thing could be done for AG. Do it before Roseweasel and Mueller find a bullet.
how long can he remain acting? From what I can remember, it seems it could be nearly indefinite.
